In need of pro tips for pulling off a DIY fade haircut.

Surely there are some rugged individualist hair cutting gurus on the OT who can tell me how to best go about doing a basic fade with clippers. Getting tired of this mop, and while waiting for my clippers to arrive, I was curious if anyone has some pro tips on cutting your own hair.

There are some front porches along Plank Road where I'm sure you can get your fade tightened

Set the cutting level on four for the first pass, then three for the second pass. Get someone to hold the bowl for you.

Just shave it, you're gonna end up doing it anyway when you frick it up.

Is there something wrong with getting your hair trimmed up on the front porch? When I was in college a friend of mine used to cut hair. He would let me know when he would come, I would let other people know and everyone who wanted a haircut would come by. He charged $10 and it was all done on the front porch.

I do it once a week, just use all your blades.i use a 4 on top then I do the sides with a 1 blade. Keep blade square and go around head at fade line then use a 2 blade at fade line then use 1 and a half at fade line until it fade correctly. Then get a small mirror where you can look into a mirror behind u so u can see the back.after a few times you get it. Now wears hat so nobody can see it

I’m pretty sure, even with my limited skill set, I can pull off a better haircut than that nonsense. Worst comes to worst, I’m buzzing it. That’s the way I figure it.

I've been cutting my own hair for over 20 years, it's not that hard. However the first time I messed it up so bad I had to shave it bald.

2 up the sides and back, 5 across the top, 8 in the front. No sideburns, no mistakes. I’ve been rocking this haircut since the 1st grade
