Laws that legalized recreational marijuana were associated with an 8% drop in the number of high schoolers who said they used marijuana in the last 30 days, and a 9% drop in the number who said they’d used at least 10 times in the last 30 days, according to the paper published in the medical journal JAMA Pediatrics on Monday.

quote:

“Just to be clear we found no effect on teen use following legalization for medical purposes, but evidence of a possible reduction in use following legalization for recreational purposes,” said Mark Anderson, an associate professor at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana, who was first author of the paper. “Because our study is based on more policy variation than prior work, we view our estimates as the most credible to date in the literature.”

Louisiana will be the last state to get on board with legalization. It’s ironic because it’s something that can help our broken, stagnant economy so much but we’ll never do it.

Whichever state in the south is the first to legalize recreational pot is going to see a surge in tourism.

My money is on Georgia or North Carolina.

In addition to the economy it will put dealers out of business, reduce crime, reduce incarcerations and related spending.

But why do we need all that right, because for some reason MJ is dangerous and should be out of the public's hands?

Because they see how worthless their pot head parents are and are choosing a different path.

Or it could just be that removing the “thrill” of doing something illegal makes it less enticing to rebellious teenagers

It certainly won’t be Kentucky. We can’t even get medical to a floor vote here because our idiot Governor is adamantly against it and has vowed to veto any action.

Which is incredibly sad given it’d easily supplement lost profit from former tobacco farms.

If people had any idea how many professionals are recreational users, they’d shite.

I work in the business world and one of our partners suggested implementing a drug testing program for our company and our Managing Partner said out loud in front of all the upper management: "I'm not trying to replace half our staff in the near future."

I believe it.

There’s potheads just like there’s alcoholics. And there’s high functioning adults who use both recreationally and responsibly. It’s funny to see people who can’t grasp that.

Imagine that, diminishing the taboo nature of it makes it less tempting.

Unless you have some overall issues with production or work ethic, why even suggest implementing a drug test? Excluding professions where it is a safety issue, of course.

Win-win for me. I'm a little over an hour drive to either state.

I really wish they would invent an active THC test already and just legalize it everywhere.

Hey now, the alcohol lobby paid damn good money to buy enough state and local politicians to make sure that doesn't happen.
