I suspect drinking will make a big comeback at some point. People have been drinking for 10,000 years.
If nothing else, it helps young people socialize and get laid, two things Gen Z struggles with statistically.

I'm noticing more people are smoking again. Younger people seem to think it's hip and rebellious again.

I never liked smoking cigs and I started getting really bad heartburn from alcohol so I put down the drinks a couple of years ago

Lot of anecdotal evidence here. Amongst those I know in our 50's, we drink all the time, it's no longer just on the weekends. Not many cigarette smokers but many of us smoke cigars.
My oldest, 24, chews, or used to, I think he's on the Zyn now. I chewed Cope, Griz, Skoal, Kodiak, etc. for about 20 years. If I was young I wouldn't chew either, too expensive, I'd do the Zyn.
If I caught my kids smoking cigarettes I'd give them a cigar instead. You can get daily cigars for about $2 buying in a bundle. Puff on one every other day or do. All you need while you're drinking a few garage beers.

Cigarettes are definitely trending up again among younger people. The inundation of advertisements about smoking health effects paid by tobacco lawsuit settlements has stopped. And cigarette manufacturers are master manipulators in marketing.

This is underdiscussed. Before kids, much of the population went out to socialize and Th/Fr/Sat were targeted drinking episodes. After, the model of when drinking occurs seems to change. The midwest seems to expand "it's too cold to do anything but drink" into the entire year.
The last time I chewed I got transferred a 5lb "mail sack" of chew. Very cheap. People have a lot of ways to forestall boredom. But at least it's not khat cheek
