where did i say anything remotely like that? i was just commenting on a scare-graph that represents a 3-week window of a virus outbreak and trying to compare it to much longer term daily rates.

the flu doesn't affect everyone equally 365 days a year.

COVID outbreak deaths too shall pass.

i'd like to bookmark that chart for when we have a year's worth of data so its comparing apples to apples.

We don't even count them, we just estimate flu deaths based on "excess" deaths over some baseline.

this chart wont look anything like this once you do the same thing for 2020 COVID
Maybe not, but there's not a politician in the world who would take that chance.

I really have no idea where we are in this virus because we haven't tested sufficiently. However, we do know that the dead are tested. So that's the only count we know the real number of and even then that is simply attributing COVID as the reason regardless of any other condition. Which I view as fair for counting sake for this virus.

I don't get why people can't be pro real life facts and still be also pro wash your hands and not have excess movement to curtail spread. I'm all in favor of everyone being as sanitary as possible and doing what they can to reduce the spread.

However, we won't kill the virus by sheltering in place or any curfews put in place. If it is as they say it is... all we are doing is buying time to come up with cures or fixes like the malaria drugs. Which is good. I'd rather we all survive this. The problem is most people believe that if we could get everyone to not go out we would get rid of it and that is simply unrealistic. Never anywhere would you be able to achieve that sort of control.

You can not have unbridled fear of this and still want to fight it.

So are all the other cases of death remaining the same?

Was thinking about this last night, on average 7,700 people die in the US a day. Has that total number changed drastically in March?

Wanna know something odd?

Less than 7700 a day on average have been dying so far this year. Seems like that would be much higher, with coronavirus and all? But it aint. Hmmmmm

I assume accidental deaths would be down due to most of the population being somewhat sheltered at home. The rest, who knows honestly. We won't know until like 3 yrs when they compile it all is my guess. I'd say COVID pulled a LOT of from the other disease deaths meaning they died a little earlier than they would have. We're probably trading one set of deaths for another. Especially if you believe in 'Final Destination' lore. We're all slated for death at one time or the other. We just hope it's a long other time away.

How is that a stupid argument? It's not an argument at all. It's just the numbers. Do you not wish to know how many people died each day on average when you are hearing of death counts?

I'm not arguing one way or the other. It is what it is. I would just rather people have a perspective of the ratio as we watch the news and freak out. Do you wish to not know the truth? I see nothing wrong with the other moving chart posted either as long as it's factual. The truth is all I'm worried about.

What the hell am I even supposed to respond to with this?

I have never in my life known anyone die from the flu.

I know people who are being effected by this virus and the numbers are going up.

Cool visual.

It should only reinforce that people are fricking morons and the media/politicians want our country to die.

COVID-19 at the highest ranked #3, on average ranked #10.

If we go YTD, COVID-19 doesn't rank top 20.

If we estimate 20k deaths this year (even 50k for you sky screaming ****s) COVID-19 will not rank top 10.

Could you imagine if we shut down the country every time 500 people died from cancer?

Could you imagine if the government spent 3 trillion on beating cancer? Or heart disease? Or suicide?

People are fricking morons and get what they deserve.

So you only want us to react after it becomes deadly to many people, not proactively to prevent those deaths?

This virus is going to go on for months and months until we have a vaccine or at least a treatment plan that saves lives. We are still only in the 2nd inning.

Drdoct gets it. Please show me that graph with the corresponding reductions in all the other rows from people who died of those causes last year but are succumbing to Covid this year.

I get the need to flatten the curve and try to keep the hospitals from imploding, but you’re kidding yourself if you think however many Covid deaths we eventually have are going on top of the baseline number of deaths from infectious causes.

Unfortunately we won’t get that data for a year or two

That’s what I said back when everyone freaked out because 3,000 people died in 9/11. 7700+ people die everyday what’s the big deal?!
