On a scale from 1-10, how Asian are you?
You said it wasn't about math, but about how fast you can write

I actually took the time to do those questions. Finished in 34 secs, though I did miss one from going fast. Kid me would of nailed it. The teacher will not count those scores if everyone fails to finish. She is just making them think fast.

Your kid's teacher gives me hope for the world.

This should take 45 seconds at most. Your kid either has abnormally slow reflexes or a sub-100 IQ

I did too. My wife and I both have plenty of post grand math under our belts, know the answers by reflex and can’t get all of them in 60 seconds.
Dude I could do it at 9 and I became a plant baw. Don’t need to be a rocket scientist in order to do this...

The teacher says the kids should be able to do it, the problem is that it’s not friggin possible to write the answers down fast enough.
Is this some new standard teachers are going by or is this teacher just being unreasonable?
Scruffy had to do that in 3rd grade.
It is definitely possible.

Just stop dude. Two reason, you're A telling us you and your wife got post graduate degrees somewhere in what we can only assume aren't accredited universities and B you're worse than the participation award crowd for our future generations. Just stop man, no we shouldn't make tests easy so your bloodline can carry on. I'm sorry to be the one to tell you but the future of "Sleepytime" bloodline doesn't look long for this world. Adopt

It sounds like he is just Asian enough to not brag about getting post graduate work in while having the math skills to that of a 9 year old is about how asian I see that dude being. Listening to people like you make me very optimistic for my kids in succeeding in this world if this is how it's trending out there in academia.

If he knows his multiplication tables, it should be easy. Like stupid easy. Like a free grade kind of easy.
ETA: You sound like one of those parents who blames the teacher for his kid's shortcomings. I would suggest having him practice writing his tables.

Your son is dumb because his father is dumb.

Sorry to hear your kid is stupid. Might as well ship him to Grand Isle to start learning how to be a deckhand, or you can teach him some Spanish and let him work on the interstate.

What exactly is "post grand" math? Do you mean after you granduated high school?
Because the math you learn as an undergrad in Physics is much more advanced than the math you learn as a master's in art.

We did 100 problems in third grade, but the goal was 2 minutes, so same thing, keep trying

I'm an engineer, I can't multiply 1x1. I need a calculator for that shite. Literally amazed by the amount of simple multiplication table info that I don't remember after relying on calculators for so long.

Well it could always be worse.
You could be given an hour to do 60 Laplace Transforms.

Surely you can do 2^n in your head though right?

I did the same activity in 3rd grade. We progressed thru 12 if I recall. Had a popcorn party at the end. Had a few kids get hung up around 8-9 and never taste the salty popped corn kernels. Your kid might be looking at a fine arts path.
