Every week, my 9 year old’s math teacher gives the kids 60 seconds to read and write the answer to 50 multiplication table(0-12) questions. Each one is worth a point and that section counts for about 15% of their grade.
The teacher says the kids should be able to do it, the problem is that it’s not friggin possible to write the answers down fast enough.
Is this some new standard teachers are going by or is this teacher just being unreasonable?

Sounds like your kid is dumb. Might as well start training him to flip burgers

She's a teacher. She's taking out her sexual frustrations on the students.

That's funny. I think your kid goes to where mine did at 9 and believe it our not they will pass it. They do not quit until they pass it and when he/she does you will be impressed.

That simple math and mostly memorization. Nothing worse than seeing someone stumble over a simple math problem. Make sure your kid isn't one of those people that can't do simple math in their head.

Multiplication tables are stupid easy. Over a second per question is plenty if it's an actual table and not random problems.

This is one of those times I really want to know who's downvoting.

I did too. My wife and I both have plenty of post grand math under our belts, know the answers by reflex and can’t get all of them in 60 seconds.

Your kid should be doing it better than you though since it's fresh. So is it actual tables or random problems? That's a big difference.

There are three types of people in the world, those that are good at math and those that aren't.

Junior needs to be more concerned about hitting that fastball than impressing the math nerds. Tell him that when gets that signing bonus for going pro, then he needs to go back and buy calculator for that math teacher.

It’s random problems, he knows them except for some of the 12’s. He can’t write down the answers fast enough. That’s 1.2 seconds to read/answer each question.
See how many you can write the answer to in 48 seconds:

After looking at it, I can do them all with time to spare. I'm an engineer though, so math is kind of my thing.

ETA: And I was better at those in 3rd grade when I learned them.

60 seconds seems a little fast to me for young kids. I would tack on another 15-20 seconds.

It’s not me. Some other poster must hate math and this is bringing back some bad memories because I’m getting downvotes too.
