Anyone else watch this yet? I searched, but didnt see any mentions.
Holy shite, Stockton Rush was a complete POS.
That sub had so many issues it wasnt fit to have people in it 100 meters down, much less 3000 meters.
Shame on him.

Yep. Seems that he knew it had a crack in it prior to the implosion.

The Wreck of the Billionaire's Barrel
Well the legend lives on, from the twitter folk passed down, and the jokes and the memes that came to me,
Now it may be poor taste, (they were turned into paste), but they tell how some folks met their doomy...
The sub was a can, (to be filled with man jam), built to substandard qualifications,
Its owner had dough, more than sense y'know,
The whole thing was controlled by PlayStation...

I think I saw a clip where the main hatch was only sealed by 4 bolts by design? The ppl who went on that thing are dumb for not seeing the signs.

The material Rush used for the sub was great for airplanes, horrible for subs. He came from an aviation background and went with what he knew. I've seen multiple interviews where it seems like every time it went down, someone was hearing a pop. Rush liked to blame it on brackets or something, but the frame was slowly breaking down every time it went deep.

As they first analyzed the pieces of wreckage, they realized the force of the implosion fused human remains with the various sub materials. Like pieces of tissue, metal, fibers, etc.
Horrific.
Horrific.

The fact that it made multiple trips down and back is kind of remarkable. Other sub builders and financiers can say whatever they want publicly, but there is a lot to be learned from this idiot's adventures. A sub that supposedly wasn't capable of going where it went made multiple trips.

Having the sub sit out all winter in Canada freezing and unfreezing was a horrendous decision.
But Some of those interviews are revisionist history. Like the guy said he KNEW it was going to explode once he heard it crack during his dive, but didn’t say anything because he didn’t want to ruin the dive for anyone else.

I would have noped the frick out the moment he whipped out a Bluetooth PlayStation controller to drive the thing. No way I'm trusting some Bluetooth controller at the bottom of the ocean.

I couldn't believe it when I first heard that.
It just screams "rinky-dink" on probably the most critical component and raises really serious issues with everything else.
It's really difficult to see how people trusted the guy and his sub. Paid him serious bucks as well.

Can we move on from these knuckleheads in a sardine can?
It’s been beat to death.

There were 18 bolts, but they only used 4. And their idea was that once you're down the pressure would keep the lid on (so to speak), so you didn't need more bolts.
That doc was very telling, and an exceptionally bad look for Stockton and the company. I love how just about every single dive they went on, nothing went right. Ever. Even after they heard the pops and the delamination (or whatever it was called) of the hull. Yet he still touted it as completely safe and blah blah.
I guess the only real upside to it was that he died down there too. Because imagine the bullshite he'd be spewing and things he would be blaming had he been on the surface when it happened. It would be infuriating to listen to that shite.

I couldn't believe that when the got to that part. That was absolutely ridiculous and BEGGING for trouble with the integrity of that thing.

IMO, a playstation controller wasnt the worst idea by far. It was the most tested, reliable, and durable thing on the sub.

Killed those people. Maybe not intentionally, but through wanton negligence he did.
