I define success by making the DMV follow the law with the same exactitude they make you follow it.
Do they just get to ignore it because it's inconvenient? What happens when the 100's of people get utterly screwed out of hundreds of because of some random and meaningless policy that has to be adhered to? The people take it because they don't feel like there is any other recourse. It's not worth the time, I don't have the resources and so on.
I'm making the time and are using my resources. Sometimes it's just the principle.
You've never done anything just because it was the right thing to do alone? If you haven't you wouldn't understand. Read the link in the first thread. I recovered that guys motorcycle. Nobody else stepped up. It was the right thing to do and I knew I could do it. Once I got it back to my house I offered it back to him. He refused.
If I'm succesful, maybe next time someone says "I'm not going to let this stand", they will think twice.

Did you stop at the first employee who refused your son? Or did you call the main office to ask about it?

I live outside of Baton Rouge. I was turned down by the local office. I made an appointment, took time from work and went to Baton Rouge and so on.
I've been in communication with the DMV in one form or another for the last 6 months. Their default move was to just ignore me and wait for me to go away.
I filed a petition for rule making, etc.
I've done everything in my power to get this taken care of outside of litigation.

He's just a dumbass that is clogging up the court system and wasting more of our tax dollars. I bet OP wears jorts and his wife weighs 300 lbs

Not having a SSN and be successfully self employed is the way to go

Probably hired some door law lawyer that is going to buy a new car off this stupidity

I don’t care about any of your issues but if you’re suing the DMV, I like it.

Yeah but OPs lawyer is definitely going to get a bar complaint and one star Google review. Maybe even a malpractice suit

Do you care to share why you believe this?

I think he's just saying that seems to fit your MO if you don't get satisfaction.

Keep us posted and I hope you win. Should you win the case. hope the judge rules the dmv must pay your lawyer fees as well. Especially if they violated state law.

Did you try contacting your legislators? They may have been able to get traction or they can submit a bill clarifying the law.

Policy change, legal expenses and one other minor no cost thing. I just want them to obey the law and to pay for my expenses to make them do so.

Actually, I expect this to be resolved very quickly. I know, everyone on here is going to say that’s insane but I think differently.

Yes, never got a response.
I know others feel differently, but I think the law is abundantly clear. It’s lumped together in a paragraph, but It specifically says “the dept. SHALL not deny any person”. I’m not sure how my son is logically excluded from the “any person” category.

Why would your son ever choose to pay 7.5-15% of his income over his working life as a tax, while excluding himself from SS?

Well…… SS won’t be there when I’m old enough to take out…. So…. I’d like to keep that 7.5-15% of my income.
