Nah, this ad was designed for Tumblr posters like you to come out of the woodwork and defend a megacorporation (with shady practices) because they told big meanie men to "do better y'all"

WTF are you talking about? Kork is absolutely right. Their stock has been on a steady decline, they have one goal which is not trying to change the way people think.

They don't give a frick what people are thinking, they just care about how they can use what people are thinking in order to sell more product. Look at all of the attention they have gained from that commercial.

People who use gillette products don't really give a frick about a commercial.. But there will be people who will support and buy gillette products because they agree with the commercial.

But yeah go ahead and think you know how to make more money than one of the most valuable brands in the world.

I can definitely make an ad that does less damage than that pile of shite.

How about this. A nice, fit man in his 40’s is shaving with a Gillette razor in front of the mirror. 5’oclock shadow. Dressed in pants and an undershirt. It is evening.

There’s a knock on the door.

“Daddy?”

Enter a girl in her late teens. You see a few squares of toilet paper to dab nicks on her legs from shaving with a new razor.

She comes in with a new Brand X pink razor.

Holds it up to him

“Can you?”

He takes brand X razor and shaves a patch of his cheek...then thinks better. Throws brand X pink razor in the trash

He gives her one of his new Gillettes, and she runs off to the other bathroom.

Cut to scene, later, they are all dressed up, ready to go. Mom and Dad and little brother downstairs.
Daughter comes down stairs in a lovely dress, gets almost to the foot, pulls dress up to her knee and beams. “Look, no nicks!”

Dad Replies
“There won’t be any Nicks where we are going either.”

Cut to them walking into the National Championship winner’s celebration.

GILLETTE

“Imagine a World With No Nicks.”

See...infinitely better

It's like you didn't even read the rest of my post.

One can take that position if he is paranoid, yes.

How is that being paranoid? It's recognizing human nature.

Just look at all of this free publicity for Gillette. This may be one of their most financially successful ad campaigns in a long time.

OK. That's kind of a non-sequitur in relation to my statement, but fine.

Having said that, their commercial is 100% spot on when it comes to the way I try to raise my son. I try to raise him to respect women, respect others, respect his mother, and not to fight.

Here lies the problem. You don’t have to be a little bitch boy to do any of those things. I like guns, football, beer, I lift weights and cuss and do all the “toxic” masculine things. That doesn’t mean I go home and call my mom a whore and beat my wife. Masculinty has been warped beyond recognition. You’re pushing your own idea of “manhood” on people who aren’t responsible for any of the problems. Also, not teaching your kid how to fight, is a bad deal. You’ll just make him a victim. But everyone wants to be a victim now.

Doesn't mean shite to me, either, but there are many in this thread who will be boycotting Gillette. They take it personally when someone suggests that perhaps they could be better people.

This. I honestly couldn't tell you what brand of razor I'm using right now, either.

There's nothing in a razor commercial that is going to cause me to buy, or not buy a product that is simply an afterthought anyway.

I don't disagree, but most of the argument in this thread is that it's a bad decision because they are basically lecturing their target market and most people are tired of being lectured to.
I have never in my life felt like the TV was lecturing to me. I can't imagine what it feels like to be a snowflake boo-hooing over everything the TV says. Maybe these commercials have been too effective at pussifying the world?
quote:

And while a lot of what is lectured in the commercial is something that most everyone agrees with it does a bad job by lumping every man in as bad and using bullshite stereotypes to push the message.
The message is to try to do what's right even if no one else around you is doing so. Be the example. But those who most need to hear the message let it blow right by them, instead taking it as a personal attack. But that is to be expected, and is part of the planning of these types of commercials.

Like Kork said, they are in a battle with all of these cheaper razor companies popping up. They are just trying to target a different group of people since companies like Dollar Razor Club has a "manly man" approach to their marketing.

It's really not quantum physics. They are trying to boost sales, they identified a target audience and then executed.

The people who really have a problem with the commercial are less likely to use gillette (because of the other companies target audience) so it will not hurt them.

There are people who are loyal gillette users and will not stop using them just because of some commercial. They keep those customers.

There will be people who support the message. Because of it, they decide to support gillette by buying their product. Gillette gains a new target audience who is not buying their product.

My point is this commercial was designed for figs like Korkstand, who probably whine all the time about corporatism, to come out and defend this mega corporation, because it told him that , actually, it's okay if you're only 5'7 and we have a shady history, we are both woke so it's all good now

Again, overly sensitive and naive. Are you really that ignorant in respect of the role of media (all forms of it) in shaping human behavior and mores?

So, you admit that there is messaging. Good.
