One of the things I hated growing up there.

It’s really not.
It is though. For all the jobs I've had in Louisiana, I usually had to know someone already working there. In Houston, it was always my experience that got me the job.
Im not saying nepotism doesn't exist in other places, just saying it's worse in Louisiana. Rural areas in the South tend to be worse than other places in the country, and Louisiana takes it up a notch from there.

The Good Ole Boy network isn't exclusive to LA.

Perfect example of people bitching and no real context. Louisiana has nepotism laws for state agencies. This is a much bigger issue in private industry in Louisiana.
True, but those laws only apply to immediate family; and it only applies to their immediate chain of command.
I've heard plenty of cases where a manager was "strongly encouraged" to hire a candidate because of who their parent was; even if they were a terrible candidate and bombed the interview. But like others have said, nothing about that is limited to the public sector.

My 85 yo Mom plays the " my son is a LT " every time she got pulled over or wrecked. Its gotten to the point where hes told her " do not use my name again". We pulled her DL this year and shes off the roads now!

once you move, you realize a lot of the negatives about Louisiana compared to other states.

Enforcement of State anti-nepostism laws is quite uneven. At LSU several years ago a junior faculty member from out of state was fired by a dean from out of state for hiring his wife to assist him. The department chair who approved the illegal hiring was a La boy. He was only demoted.
Recently I read that our State Attorney General has been given approval to hire lawyers from her husband's law firm. I'm sure everybody involved is from Louisiana and all went to the same 2 law schools.
Higher Ed may be the only part of state government where outsiders that follow rules dominate...new LSU President is an exception.

The next city/state I go to where nepotism isn’t a major factor will be my first…..
It’s quite literally basic human nature

I tried to have this conversation with leadership at a company I used to work for. He was not from here nor did much business here and thought that he could hire a sales guy to cold call and actually receive business.
Moved his marketing budget to near zero and then couldn't wrap his head around why doors closed in his face.
Needless to say, they went from probably 60% of the market to maybe 15% in 2 years.

I don’t know about that. When I first moved here I was in the Abbeville courthouse and was looking at a composite on the wall from the 1970s. It completely caught my attention because I recognized nearly every person in it…because their sons looked just like them.

Nepotism isn't unique to Louisiana. What is unique is the high proportion of residents that were born in the state and remain. Further concentrates this.
