Republicans will say it was the failure of Obama's foreign policy that led to the current situation in Syria.
Democrats will say it was the failure of Bush and the war in Iraq that led to the Syria's current predicament.
Truth is, it's a mixture of all of that. With the Syrian people embracing the Arab Spring, the igniting of a civil war, and the total instability of neighboring Iraq, we're seeing the perfect storm of Middle Eastern conflict destroy Syria. It is ideological, political, and tribal. It is a conflict that is unprecedented and one of a kind - no one could have predicted that it would turn so ugly so quickly. This is a situation which will be studied in geopolitical curriculum for decades to come.
The US didn't want to start a direct conflict with Russia, plain and simple. Russia knew we wouldn't do anything with Afghanistan going on, and that the UN would steer clear of involvement. When you consider the circumstances of all the players involved, the past 3 years have shown us that Syria was doomed, and there was nothing anyone could do to stop it.

When Bush was president, everyone blamed everything on him. Now that Obama is in office, he gets blamed for everything. I think some of you don't fully understand what a president is capable/not capable to do.
Obama is to blame for the civil war in Syria because:
1. Obama sent to Syria massive amounts of arms and money to Syrian Rebel Groups
2. Obama directed the CIA to arm and train Syrian rebel groups
Without those two actions, there would be no Syrian Civil War.
Imagine if Putin started sending money and weapons to the Black Panther Party and BLM groups. And on top of this Putin sent in Spetsnaz and FIS teams to train and organize the Black Panthers and BLM groups. Then on top of all that Putin started bombing Federal forces trying to put down the BLM revolt.
That's pretty much what Obama has been doing in Syria.

I couldn't agree more. The intentional targeting of civilians is beyond reproach in my opinion. If our president had any backbone and wasn't such a fricking pussy, the second Assad starting using chemical weapons he would have said enough and intervened. It's time the US show some leadership and step in to end this thing. We used to be a nation that stood up for the weak. Under this president, those days are behind us.
My only reservation is that we/I do not know who the "rebel" forces are that are fighting Assad. Is there a component of extremism in the opposition? Once we replace Assad, does this become another Iraq? My guess is that Barry and his cowards believe this to be the case and don't want that on their hands so they are going to stand back and continue letting civilians being killed. Certainly ISIS and company are fighting Assad, but is there a moderate faction that can take control if Assad taken out?

This is what happens when you let global elite bankers dictate American foreign policy
Situation: Qaddafi not having a centralized bank
Result: Region gets destabilized, rebels get funded and armed by the United States because Qaddafi is a tyrant the western world suddenly is threatened by and needs to depose. He may have been a tyrant but he kept the region in check.
Situation: Hussein selling Iraqi oil in exchange for gold, moving away from the global standard of selling oil in exchange for US Dollars
Result: Suddenly Hussein has WMDs and is a threat to the world, we move in to overthrow him and set up a "democracy", coalition forces pull out to early and the region is horribly destabilized and multiple rebel forces coalesce into a larger movement
ULTIMATE result: destable regions of Iraq and Syria lead to rebel forces/terrorists/insurgents being merged into a terrorist organization/caliphate with actual geographic control, government, administration, and currency. Aptly named the Islamic State of IRAQ and SYRIA.
Funny how that works.

Don't know how hard it is to understand. The current administration literally supplied ISIS with money and weapons to overthrow Assad

The use of the "red line" has to rank up there on the list of worst foreign policy decisions.

Those people have been butthurt since Ishmael was sent packing by Abraham.
They will always be a pain.

There's a good chance this would lead to a war against Russia since they are Assad's ally.

Yes we do. The CIA helped create, arm, and train most of them.

Is there a component of extremism in the opposition?
Very much so. The media says we are supporting the "moderate" rebels. But the term "moderate" is relative and in this case, not what they'd lead us to believe.
quote:
Once we replace Assad, does this become another Iraq?
Pretty much. It would be either under the control of ISIS or, if ISIS is crushed, it would become a puppet of Iran. Either way, not good for us.

This whole thing is a perfect example of the naivety of Obama and the progressives. When the whole "Arab Spring" thing started in the Middle East the leftists in the West jumped on board in full support of any and every fringe group claiming to be "fighting for freedom". They thought what they were seeing was the spread of the "revolution of the proletariat" into the middle East. What they failed to realize was these revolutions were far different in nature than what they wanted to believe. These "grass roots" groups, even the moderates, are for the most part proving to be blood thirsty terrorists looking to spread Islamic extremism around both the Middle East and the world.
Obama and the progressives wanted to believe the "Arab Spring" was about democracy. But it turns out what it was really about was setting up an Islamic Caliphate.

The little boy, named Orman, is alive, as is his entire family. Survived a Russian bombing run that destroyed the building next door. They're living with relatives as i read to understand. Unfortunately for every survival miracle there are thousands of nightmares. Assad used chemical weapons in a neighborhood a few years ago in the middle of the night. Hundreds of kids who were asleep in their beds were gassed. The video of them being brought in to the hospital still alive haunts me. It's one of the worst things i've ever seen.
Tears your heart out. All of it. Humans can suck so badly.

Well indirectly, but I get what you are saying. The US funds the rebels, but I don't think the rebels and ISIS is really fighting for the same cause. The rebels are not fighting just to have their country be controlled by ISIS, but helping the rebels is helping ISIS fight for their cause.
Its not like this is the first time the US has provided weapons to people who would turn around and use it against us. We supplied Afghanistan with weapons to fight and beat Russia, that was under Reagan. They used those resources to fight against us after they beat Russia.

The full video of the boy in the first picture is absolutely devastating.
I saw the pic 2 days ago. And happened across the video at work. I almost fricking cried at work. Politics be damned that video is gut wrenching. That little boy sits there like a man. He is in shock beyond words or a natural response. He is shocked beyond tears.
He looks like a little adult. At first embarrassed by the cameras. Then puts his hand to his eye and sees blood. Absolute horror.
And he just sis there alone. And doesn't fricking cry.

I agree, but that video hits the feels hard.
Not a damn thing can be done though. With every move we make over 3-4 presidents we just keep stepping on our dick.

There has probably been roughly 30-40 Billion people in this world since beginning of man. Maybe more.
And you want me to care about a bunch of backwards arse goat frickers in some Syrian shithole? That kid will probably grow up to suicide bomb 45 people. So there's some comfort. Hell, there's an argument he would still do it with that backwards religion.
