It's sad but not our job. There's lots of injustice and pain in the world. Maybe Syrians need to man up and establish themselves a democracy instead of running for Germany.
Considering the role the US, the rest of the Coalition, and Russia now has in the war, I'd say we are past the point of saying that it is solely the responsibility of the Syrians to clean up the mess.

Yet, Assad is still slaughtering people.
It's sort of a "well if they hadn't picked a fight with a mass murderer, he wouldn't have upped his mass murdering" thing.

Not to mention the direct impact this is already having on Europe and the stability of the EU, which indirectly impact us via NATO.
If you think this isn't our problem, read about the lead ups to the World Wars.

This is a failure of every world leader over the past 15 years. Bush, Obama, Putin, Blair, Cameron, Merkel, Ban Ki-moon, etc. It should have never gotten to this point.
No, this is specifically a failure of Obama as POTUS and Clinton and SoS. Obama is the one who working with Turkey and Saudi Arabia poured mountains of money and arms to the Syrian Rebels. Without US backing, there would be no rebellion in Syria. Obama wanted Assad toppled and the result is a civil war that's already killed half a million.

Ok, fine. If we are to take responsibility then we need to not go half arse. We steamroll the frick out of everything in our way until no one is left with a will to fight. Which means we need to be able to broker an agreement on how to do that with the Russians so that we do not start WWIII in the process.
This halfway in/halfway out, flying air and drone strikes from Turkey nonsense is only prolonging matters and creating negative PR like a little boy covered in bomb debris and a bloody head.
There is no middle ground: we either get out or get in all the way. Any in between and you get the current status quo.

Only person killing terrorists is Putin. Real talk.

I agree. This half in half out bs is whats going to start an even bigger conflict. Sign a treaty with Russia that allows both of us to use any forces necessary to bulldoze the responsible parties there

I agree. This limited engagement stuff doesn't help anything.
I think we can all agree that this entire conflict has just shown how much of a waste the United Nations is, specifically the Security Council. This conflict is tailored made for UN intervention and peacekeeping; however, it is such a toothless organization that has failed spectacularly.

Wrong. There was already a rebellion in Syria. Assad is a murderous thug and the head of the regime that has oppressed the Sunni majority for decades. Letting the war fester and Syria becoming a failed state and the chaos next door in Iraq lead to ISIS.

^This dude gets it. We either need to do this or just quit playing and let the middle easterners sort their own mess out.

Sadly, this is the only way this war will end. And that means images like that little boy in the ambulance will be repeated over and over before the war ends.

Perhaps it was a bad idea for Obama/Hillary to support the Assad overthrow

Guess you're not paying attention to Army SF in Afghanistan lately.
Not surprising, they probably don't talk about it in Sputnik.

Add David Cameron and Merkel to that list. This was the West trying to deflect Putin.

That's war. We all romanticize the US' victory in WWII, but no one considers the toll the war took on average French, Italian, English, and German citizens not in the military. There were thousands of little boys like that in France in the early 1940s.
If all one ever does is shrink from a fight because one fears the pain, the bully wins every damn time.

There was nothing like what we see now. There was no real rebellion that could cause enough of a problem to cause what we are seeing now. Only when Obama decided to back these rebel groups with money and arms was the Syrian Civil War possible. The blame for this war lays squarely at Obama's feet.

I agree. But you don't go funding rebel groups who could be as bad or worse than Assad. We have this body called the United Nations for a reason. Go there, build a coalition. But don't just go and start a civil war.

A war only made possible by Obama by (1) pulling out of Iraq and creating a power vacuum and (2) pouring arms and money into Syria to start a civil war.

We're talking Syria not Afghanistan.

Even after the war ends, it will be decades after the end before Syria has anything resembling stability.
I've always wondered if a partitioning of Syria and Iraq is the real solution. Essentially a Kurd/Sunni/Shia split between the two current states.
