The dental school is pretty much in Metarie and closer to lake view tho the actual med school and hospitals are in a totally different and more dangerous area cmon

Without question. I've been to NOLA. I felt naked even with a pistol. If I had to live there, I'd want to walk the streets with heavy plates and an AK with a G34 as a back-up.

Crazy going from undergrad at Baylor where the Baptists don't drink or dance to med school in New Orleans. Couldn't be two more opposite places.

I saw two people dying on the street during a weekend trip to Nola.. And all this time I thought you guys were making shite up/exaggerating. Reminded me of a third world country. How did it get to this?
Have you seen a demographic pie chart of NOLA?

Of all the places to go to Med School you chose frickin New Orleans?
I'd bet a lot that OP is from Louisiana, and unless you're top of your class in most things, you have to end up going to your home state med school.
For example, LSU med school out of state acceptance rate may be like 4%, but in state is prob 40% maybe. A lot easier to get accepted in state.
I'd bet his options were just Shreveport or New Orleans. Prob wasn't very top of class in all aspects to be able to go anywhere he wanted.

Didn’t realize this was old.
Did the OP make it a year without being a crime victim?

I always love to read these threads. The OT is such a weird place. So many miserable gigantic pussies on this board.

Shreveport or New Orleans
One of those rare "winnable games" if you're Shreveport.

I live in a pretty rough neighborhood, by Atlanta standards. My Congressman is that guy who thought Guam was going to capsize like a boat, which tells you something about the demographic.
That said, I want absolutely nothing to do with Orleans Parish. There is a cruel streak in a lot of people there, a sort of cultural sociopathy, that you don't see much of in the "western" or "developed" world- what we used to call the "Christian" or "free" world.
It's an atavistic relic of the human sacrifice era that the English, Spanish, and Dutch tried desperately to eliminate from this hemisphere, only to import it back in from the other one.

Congratulations on acceptance in a professional school.
The good news is violet crime is down significantly, the state police are actively patrolling now, and 1000’s of students attend Loyola, Tulane, and LSU Health Sciences every year. A nice place is essential especially that you can do remote learning. An apartment in the warehouse district or downtown would be close by and convenient. There are plenty of fun things to do in Nola. You could also find a place in Harahan and deal with the hassle of commuting. Enjoy your experience in an unique city on your your way to a great career.

Get your burial insurance from a reputable company and make sure your will and any funeral arrangements are in order.

I spent 20 years there and my daughter graduated from LSU nursing school last year. She lived off of Magazine St. near Napoleon Ave. Best advice I can give you is what I gave her, learn the city. There are some areas you absolutely don’t go into, especially after dark. The problem is nice areas are so close to bad areas that everywhere is within striking distance of criminals. Areas that might seem safe might not be, like Canal Street. Also at night travel with a group.
With that being said she had a great time. Parades were 1 block from her house, the live music scene and all the good restaurants were a wonderful experience. Then she graduated and got out.
