Great city to expect to file a crime report within 18 months when you move there.

The only thing I'll have is student loan debt. If you want that take it as you wish

Roaad you offer no solutions. Your criticism does nothing. You are part of the apathy. You don’t live here so what’s the point.

The people who live there voted Teedy into office.

Landrieu before that

So yeah, you living there tells me you enjoy the current shittiness.

That is apathy for you.

My sil went to med school in Nola. She was only robbed at gun point twice. One of those with the security guard. So no real problem. It’s not like she was raped ormurdered.

Tulane or LSU?

I lived in New Orleans for 13 years. Did my medical school as well as my residency.

This board is full of 40 year old suburbanites who will tell you you’re going to see crime every day. You won’t.

In terms of being at school, if you are on campus studying late there are cat walks to get to every building. And use the parking garages. The cat walks connect to them.

The medical center is downtown in a really rough area. But that is true for most academic medical institutions. Houston. Dallas. Atlanta. If I was leaving Grady at night in Atlanta I’d want an armed escort.

Med school in New Orleans is fun. New Orleans is fun. When you’re done studying and after exams there is a lot of fun ways to unwind. It’s a relatively small city and most people live in a few pockets so the social aspect of med school here is almost unbeatable.

Is there crime? Yes. Of two people I know personally one was mugged last year coming home in the morning by a schizophrenic person. The other one was years ago the student who was shot by the Saint. Confronting a man who he thought was kidnapping his girlfriend. And yes my car was broken in to several times living in the garden district.

I make no excuse for crime but you can do with that data whatever you want to assume. Coming home late at night and early mornings with street parking and a minute walk to my front door I carried. But I personally never had any face to face criminal encounters.

You’ll be fine.

Leave car windows down at night
Take all valuables out of vehicle at night

I lived in Luling while working in kenner wasn’t to bad and I rarely went to New Orleans (bourbon st a few times).

Don't live in JP, live in the city pref Uptown (can drive right down Broad to get there with no traffic)
You'll be fine and it will be fun

You'll be spending all your time studying or at the hospital don't make it worse by adding 30-60 minutes in the car

Plus you won't need $50 Ubers out to Metairie every time you go out since you'll be living on student loans

Honestly, if you are worried about safety then live on campus. I did from 2015-2018. Went to PT school there. The apartments are nothing special at all but they are cheap and they are safe. I'd go a week sometimes without having to be on street level with the raised walkways between buildings.

Idk if you can avoid being robbed, shite happens especially with car break ins.

Even just leaving your car at hom it can get robbed.

Being shot part would be just dont go disrespecting anyone or stepping on their jordans. I assume you also wont be out at 4 am looking for drugs.

Well the good news is that with your medical training, you’ll be able to treat your own stabbing and gunshot wounds. There’s always a silver lining.
