Re: Chicago...there are MANY parts of the city that are virtually untouched by violent crime (River North, Gold Coast, Streeterville, Lincoln park, all along Michigan Ave. etc) The difference is that the hood is very separated from the good part of the city, unlike NOLA, where it is a checkerboard. Chi certainly has its issues, but NOLA is worse bc there is no safe neighborhood or part of the city where you can walk alone without worrying.

Denver has much more appeal than NOLA. Pro sports teams in every major sport, city parks that cater to outdoor activities, within a short drive of numerous ski resorts. It is pricey, and the hippy culture is growing. Homelessness is become an issue there...again. But it's a booming town on the frontier. It's growing at a rapid rate, as are Omaha, Albuquerque, Phoenix, Vegas, OKC, and plenty of other landlocked places.
Those cities have found ways to cater to the people, and not specific industry.

Austin can give Denver a run for their money in that category.

Not saying those places are great, but they keep growing. From a job perspective and quality of life, they must be doing something correct.
FWIW - I've been to ABQ multiple times and have a blast there and the surrounding area.

You are a park connoisseur? I just said Denver has great parks and rec facilities to offer.

A buddy of mine said Boise Idaho is booming too

Statues, crime, constant threat of flooding.

ya, but new olreans has objectively better parks and better weather to use said parks
there are plenty of other angles id use to compare the two in favor of denver but the parks is probably the last one id pick

You just have to pick your poison with any city. Unfortunately, New Orleans has MANY of them.
To the Pittsburgh haters...it's not what it used to be. The Steeltown aspect is gone, and it seems much more white collar driven. I'm not saying it's paradise and a hot living destination, but it's one of the few in the rust belt that could be trending upward again.
Places like Cleveland, Detroit, and Buffalo could take note.

The amount of homeless people we saw while in Denver was depressing.

That's about right. Austin is where 20 something year olds come to retire.
A lot of cases Peter Pan syndrome here.
