Haven't been to visit in 4 or 5 years. It used to be fun to visit but it takes me a whole week away just to be able to get the piss smell out of my nose.

I came out here for a job opportunity. I lived in Mid City and 2016 was great. 2017 is when the straws began to break camel's backs IMO. Crime kept creeping closer and closer. Then the floods. Now there is literally violent crime on my block. Out.

Seems like all the momentum NOLA had established from around 2010-2015 is all but gone.

I thought there was a ton of gentrification going on driving crime away?

It's crazy how crime has gotten worse under Mitch. I mean I didn't think it could get any worse 5 years ago.

My SO lived around Milan from 15-16. The amount of 10-14 year old kids riding their bikes around casing porches and car doors was incredible. On week days, no less.

Nah. I'm from Lafayette. She's from Western PA. We're gonna head up there next summer to beat the heat but not quite yet.

I moved to Houston several years ago and wish I would've done it as an infant. Why people continue to stay in those shite states and constantly be abused by crooked politicians and minorities....who knows...

I understand your frustration with NOLA but are you sure about Denver? Have friends who are looking to get out of there. They have lived there almost 15 years but say things are going to hell with all the new arrivals. They say crime is a problem there and the homeless population is out of control with very aggressive panhandling all over the city. Bottom line...every city in America is dealing with the same issues.

Lived in Nola for almost a decade, and I'm sad to say...you're not wrong on a lot of that. While we're not as far down the drain as Chicago or Detroit, we are not far behind. And much like those cities, our "leaders" make it their priority to pander and cater to the lowest common denominator instead of making the hard decisions and taking the hard line stances these cities require to rehabilitate. All the while, we see daily examples of how absolutely incompetent and corrupt just about every city department is.

There are very good people here who would give you the shirt off their backs, but unfortunately for every one of those, there is another (maybe two) who would just as soon attack you for your phone and wallet. And there's always the risk that you could be collateral damage in a drive by shooting (happened last week right off Magazine).

It makes me sad because you wonder how truly great this city could be, and then you look around and see the rampant problems and the politicians that keep getting voted in office who only make it worse.

I never understood the appeal of New Orleans. I'd no more want to live there than I would want to live in Detroit.

My college roommate loves it there. In the short time I spent there it was great. You can tell it's growing quickly. I think I counted 12 cranes in the skyline.

Yes every place has homeless. Yes every place has crime. But not every place is a soggy, pot-holed, under-policed, crater run by circus clowns.

Especially for the cost of decent housing there. I looked into moving there for a while recently.
