Im an EBR teacher thinking about being a welder. Tell me about being a welder in Louisiana

Got to get this off my chest:
I'm in my 3rd year teaching as a high school teacher in Baton Rouge and I fricking hate it. The pays sucks, the kids I teach are ill-behaved shitheads propagated by social media and their unemployed, lazy parents that show no desire to care about their education, administration is difficult, hardly any discipline is allowed and fights between students are a daily occurrence, Covid has only made things worse, I'm in the minority of white teachers and have no common views/hobbies with the other teachers. Overheard a group of them saying how Kamala was doing a good job but were complaining about their grocery bills earlier. I screwed myself getting caught with weed in College and can't transfer to a better school district. I'm going to finish out the year, collect my bonus and call it quits.
I did scaffolding one summer and hated it but observed welding and always was interested in it. I'm considering contacting a trade school for lessons on the weekend and it that doesn't work out join a program in the fall.
Would like to know the pros and cons of being a welder in Louisiana. Will there always be work available? What kind of pay scale is there for someone starting out and down the road if you're good? Just anything worth mentioning.
Thanks.

What kind of design will your dipped hood have on it? Eagle? Skull?

There are other trades that you can train for that will make you more money in the long term in a safer work environment with a better opportunity for advancement. Specifically, HVAC and Electrician.

I can’t speak to other places but I can tell you where I work they can’t get good welders in the door quick enough. The work is hard but the good ones are making decent money and have good benefits. I’m sure there’s more money to be made other places.
Trades are in demand (not just welding) and for some reason we don’t push kids to these and instead send them to college for worthless degrees.

Don’t think welding is as everyone thinks it is. It is an art form and takes years to be really good. They are not throwing big money at any welder that comes out of school. A lot of places will require you to make welds, that will be x-rayed, to see if you are worth a damn.
Anybody can make two pieces of flat bar on a bench, stick together. A good welder can make a leak proof weld, while laying on his back, under a flange, that’s 12” off the ground.

You’ll need to take up smoking a cigarette in between each rod

I don't do it as a profession, but I love it. If I had choose anything I do that I had to make a living doing, it would he welding (I'm retired).
It's a very useful skill and you ge a lot of satisfaction from building shite but like any job working for the man, I'm sure it would have its ups and downs.

God bless you. I taught 2nd grade for 4 years at Merrydale Elementary, and it was hell. I was the only white teacher. Can’t imagine teaching high school in EBR.

Some HVAC and Electrical companies train with pay..

Not sure why you think electrician is safer than welding, I use to be an electrician at a plant. It’s quite dangerous, more dangerous than welding.

quote:Get an expungement. They were doing them free in Baton Rouge recently. At most they’re $1500-$2000 I believe.
I screwed myself getting caught with weed in College

I hear there are great opportunities for long haul truck drivers with paid tuition to driving school as well as big $ bonuses.
See the country, gotta be better than welding

Shop welders make $15-20/hr probably.
The guys that make $75-85/hr own their own rig truck, welder, equipment. But it’s typically a gig that requires traveling, living in an RV.

I would think anything would be better than a public high school teacher in EBR. I mean anything.

Why anyone would willingly go into teaching these days is beyond me.
A shite job with poverty line pay and you have to deal with some of the worst human beings (pre-maturity).
No fricking thanks
