Have you considered working in operations at one of the plants?

The pay and benefits are great but the shifting schedule is something to be desired.

I know some Weser’s who have had to deal with respiratory medical issues later in life. Things are safer now but you are still melting metal.

You should take this as a opportunity to redpill your fellow teachers and kids.

Too much health hazard for me by breathing in all that smoke and fumes. Find another Avenue to make money. If you don’t have your health, you have nothing.

Apply to Ingalls in Pascagoula, they don’t charge for their welding apprentice school. Live in ocean springs

Yeah, teaching public school in EBR is really hard for sure, but you have to start by really caring about the kids and their families. If you can't really do that, you shouldn't be teaching.

Some of the kids I teach are homeless, some are in abusive family situations, some hardly ever see their parents because the parents work evening shifts, some are living with aunts and uncles because their parents are in Honduras, etc. That doesn't excuse bad behavior or laziness, but to be successful, you have to realize the positive benefit you can have in these kids' lives and embrace that.

This is not true at every school. Definitely not true at the middle school I teach at.

You can't make friends with black people, or people who disagree with your political views? I'm a political conservative, but I can have friendly disagreements with liberals.

Besides, one of the biggest problems in education is that it has largely been run by liberals since the days of John Dewey. The education system needs more conservatives in the worst way.

a lot of places? And structural job requires inspection certifications proving you can do it.

Don’t think welding is as everyone thinks it is. It is an art form and takes years to be really good. They are not throwing big money at any welder that comes out of school. A lot of places will require you to make welds, that will be x-rayed, to see if you are worth a damn.
Anybody can make two pieces of flat bar on a bench, stick together. A good welder can make a leak proof weld, while laying on his back, under a flange, that’s 12” off the ground.

This, I took a welding class at a community college one summer because it was free an I was looking to change careers but I sucked at it.
