I’m sure top 20% includes some people getting checks
Right. This is why I can’t help but laugh when middle class baws bitch about welfare.
quote:I’m not sure what income gets you to the 1%, but you need to make a lot more than 130k before you start getting hammered by federal income tax.
I’m not getting a check but I also don’t think I pay a lot of taxes compared to the 1%

I worked with a young guy that's a hardcore Bernie Bro and he probably makes close to 100k at 27 or so.

Its pretty interesting internet culture vs. real life. They were discussing this on Reddit the other day. If you only read Reddit for your political news, you'd think Bernie was head and shoulders leading the pack and the majority of Americans support him. People from other countries have said as much.
But the disconnect between internet/celebrity culture and the real world is pretty vast.

It's also pretty interesting that young people don't vote in large numbers. They have the lowest voter participation rates of any age demographic.
And many of them won't want higher taxes when they start making more money and would be the ones paying for all of the new social programs.

It’s not even just Reddit. The internet is just a series of echo chambers. Reddit is extremely liberal and in a lot of cases out of their minds. Political Talk on TD is obsessed with Trump and think he does no wrong. Somewhere in between those people, you’ll find most Americans.

$145k AGI puts you in top 10% and an average tax rate of approximately 21%

Yes it is. And damn depressing that he’s waiting for someone to pay for his shite.

My liberal son (where did we fail) refuses to just suck it up and pay off his law school loan because he thinks the next democrat president will waive pay off his law school loan for him.
I can’t reason with him.

If you're filing head of household (single dad) your ceiling is $112,500 and you'll get $1500 for 3 kids or $1000 if 2 kids and other family member is a sig other.
A small detail they just seemed to leave out of most summaries of the stimulus

MFJ with 2 kids under 18. I should get 3400. I was aware that I would receive one. My response earlier was in regards to “ if you’re getting a check, you probably don’t pay much in taxes”. I was just venting on what I thought was a ridiculous comment. Lol

They kind of stick it to you when you are single and make decent money.
Understatement of the fricking century.
I have a friend who has a family income of close to ours (probably about 30kish below us.) They have 2 kids, we have zero. I take an extra $1300 a year out of my check to go toward federal income taxes. He files and gets back 8k, I have to pay 1k.

You got that right! It's a fricking crime what they take from you when you bust your arse working all those days consecutively.

Unfortunately, my generation (I am a boomer nearing retirement) has saddled younger generations with so much debt that tax increases and program cuts are inevitable.

Well this economic fiasco is something they'll be paying for a decade.

He pays the minimum- geez
What’s his interest rate?

No. Explain. I’m curious?

We'll just donate our checks to the RNC.

This thread is full of lulz @ people talking shite about people who are getting a check “not paying much” in income taxes, and then crawfishing when it’s pointed out that they don’t know the tax code

28,118.82 in Federal Taxes paid last year just by me. Wife makes similar money and paid slightly less. We don’t need stimulus buts it’s aggravating that those of us who are paying for this won’t see any money. Lots of hard working middle class like us that will pay for all those that are already living off the system.
