We had a six or seven foot rat snake that lived under the shed in the back yard that took care of the yard for us. I can remember my dad trapping him and bringing him in for hurricanes and deep freezes / snows line in 88 or 89 to release back out there when things passed.

As long as they aren't venomous NBD. Like the other guy, I had a rat snake hanging around my carport for a while.
When I was searching for pics I found quite a few people that did let them in.

he was a friendly snake, I named him Elmo, he’d always come out and watch me work in the yard, never got too close but would follow me around

It's a cat. They don't know their place in the pecking order.

Gator joke aside, my bloodhound and basset hound are built for the cold and didn't seem bothered last night. My wife still let them in this morning to warm up and I ended up with a comically large bloodhound on my couch when I came back from the shitter.

My St. Bernard refuses to come inside. Call PETA

My husky will probably sleep outside on the table like usual when it's cold outside.
Tomorrow will be the best day of his life. I'll probably have to close the doggy door to keep him from coming inside all wet and snowy.

I love watching the videos of huskies and St. Bernards, etc. where they play in the snow and refuse to come in. They curl up in a ball right in the middle of it and go to sleep like it's the happiest they've ever been.
