Electrical Engineering. You can make a lot of money being one of the 10 or so people required to maintain one of those thousand acre data centers.

I surveyed for a while and being on the road was the only way to make money. I went offshore until the downturn and went Project Management. Still isn’t a dream job, but it’s easy and pays well. I wish I had went E&I straight out of high school

seen some drone surveys pick up elevations within +/- centimeters to create a 3D surface without putting guys on the ground

Can't set property corners from a drone. Drones are a big part of the profession today though. There will always be a need for surveying.

I’d go the vo-tech route and look at welding or electrical work.

I considered underwater welding years ago.

From the information I have, I would really use a mechanical engineering degree if I could do it again.

I suspect and electrical engineering degree is among the best paying.

I cant sit at a desk all the time and Engineers seem to get a good mix of field amd office work to stay entertained while being physically easy

I’ve always got a kick out of the dynamic on here. Blue collar adjacent jobs like engineer/construction management telling people to go to trade school. Trade school graduates making money to send their kids to college.

Both paths can offer careers with great compensation. Trades tend to be more physically demanding jobs vs. college degrees working in their respective fields.

My dad had a trade school degree and worked in oil and gas. I have an engineering degree and ended up working at the same company.

Having that experience, I support my kids pursuing either option that suites their personality and skill set best.

CM Degree, work in power generation/data center or water/waste water for those that want to enjoy their college.

Mech E or EE for those that want to grind their way thru school.

My Cm degree and subsequent work experience has put me in a better position than most people I know. School was relatively easy/low stress and the types of work you can go into is endless.

Either nursing or math. Math would have probably gone the actuary route or been a teacher and pursued my dream of coaching basketball
