Nah. Get into Bama, ga, the Carolinas, Tennessee, and Kentucky and you'll see a lot of younger people proud to be southern.

Take away the Confederacy, all the antebellum south motif, Dixie land, the resistance against the north..... what is left? What do we cling to that makes us Southerners? Fried food? Accents? Heat? I grew up in a time when being a Southerner still mattered. We didn't own slaves (thank God), but there was still an identity. Culture and history are interdependent. Take away one and the other dies. I think many in the younger generation don't give two shits about that.

That is the incredible irony of removing a statue to make things change. Not one damn thing will change except the states will be in a different location. All of this grief, anger, hatred, injury and death is a total waste. Removing a statue can't change a culture.

Why do you need a group identity to feel distinguished?

Don't group identity politics create more social problems than it's worth?

Do you feel insecure about your identity or something? I can't help but wonder why all of this matters.

exactly...

no one is trying to take away "southern history"... jesus christ and all the saints...

and those statues are more than likely gonna end up in a museum or something, which is where they belong, and you'll still get to go look at them and be filled with your "southern pride"...

You're thinking like a dumbass. The war was not fought solely over keeping slaves.

History is something you live with and pass on to your young. They can't take it away from you try as they might.

Today I looked at an old black lady at tonys who was clearly having a bad day. My wife said hello to her vefore ordering and she didn't acknowledge it.

I have her a smile and drawled out a "how are you doing today ma'am?" She couldn't help but smile and ask me how I was doing.

That's the South.

Friendliness can't jump racial barriers. Chivalry can jump racial barriers.

Contrary to what they say up north about us, we get along fairly well down here. :

It's not really about Southern history. These protestors are in it for the long game.

It's about questioning our founders and past and dismantling it.

Once all of the founders can be questioned and/or shown to be imperfect, then the principles that founded the country can be put into question.

If all you have to define yourself as a southerner is some statues, that's nobody's fault but yours.

As a kid I learned how to hunt and fish, navigate a bayou in a boat and not get lost, process my own kill, plant my own garden, weld/cut metal, build/fix fence, run a cow/calf operation and many other things. Nothing anybody does can take that knowledge and experience from me.

Perhaps your argument is with your forefathers and not libruhls and Yankees.
