MY SIL.. (Widow).. A month or so from retirement is selling her house (Metairie) and moving to Tennessee. It was her and my brother's dream for their retirement. She said there is a spot where she is going to spread his ashes. She (they) have friends up there and she will not be on her own..

Income tax can be deceiving. TN has the highest sales tax in the country.

I’ve lived a lot of places and western Tennessee takes the cake as far as shite weather.

Montana, it’s basically Colorado with less loons. There is income tax, but there is no sales tax.

Find a job in a hotel by and get paid for it - even if it’s chump change.

West TN is definitely the armpit of the state.

Not a big deal if you aren't a rampant consumer.

Deep into the woods. The only person to hear from me would be the delivery driver.

At least a sales tax is somewhat evenly distributed. I'd rather have a sales tax than property or income.

Well of course. A good chunk of this country doesn't pay property taxes or income taxes. And they vote to raise both after being bribed with the money from those of us who do.

I've never really understood the people who brag about no income tax states though. In many cases you pay massive property taxes instead. That might be a worse trade off to me. Your property values are artificially inflated and it means that you never really own it.

The difference between my AL income liability and property tax liability compared to surrounding states is substantial. I make decent money, but I have a lot more in physical assets. AL property tax is just absurdly low.
