I'd probably snowbird to be honest. Florida summers July - Oct are brutal and the best weather in FL comes between Nov - April.

Tennessee sounds the best if I have to choose a 12 month location.

Colorado - Great summers, lots of outdoor stuff. Too many Californians and state income tax.

Well you’re retired.

If I retired at 42 I’d be wealthy enough to have a house out west and a house in the south.

Texas is where people go to work, not to retire.

Definite no on Tennessee for me, it would be like Colorado but worse.

Florida Panhandle (Pensacola) or Western/Central Colorado for me. Ouray, Telluride, maybe Marble because it's so remote, especially if I can get Starlink.

Pretty much my exact order but in reverse. I assume if I'm retired at 42 that I'm pretty loaded. The best thing about Texas is the economy which I wouldn't really be affected by.

Florida at least has beaches, fishing, golf and similar taxes. Tennessee has low taxes, seasonal weather and some terrain/mountains. Colorado has a beautiful landscape, legal weed and tons of outdoor activities.

42yo was not a hypothetical. We continued to live in Tchefuncta and Covington, but travelled a bit. We did move to Burbank, CA for 8 months for some child-acting. That's was cool.

After a few years, re-entered business world. Retired again after several years. Split time between CovLA and Atl (kids in Atl). Easy-to-navigate music scene in Atl.

Getting elected and being mayor of my hometown is a very cool way to spend this current retirement.

That you have a TD account and are still in office is pretty remarkable.

I always follow the old rule that whatever you write presume the one person you do not want to see it will see it. Even when I post.

Colorado
Texas
Florida
Tennessee

Of those four Colorado then Tennesee (Eastern) with FL and TX well behind. Of all 50 states the NE coast of Kauai, the mainland would become vacation only.

Do I have a wife and kids? What kind of cash flow am I looking at? That’s a very broad question.
