Food subar? Did you dumb rednecks go to Applebee's?
This. I live here and this place is phenomenal from a food and entertainment persepective. There is never a boring night, always something fun going on.
I'll admit that I wasn't a fan the several times I visited before moving here, and it took me a while to come around, but I love it here now. No better place in the world for a young gainfully employed single guy.

"Nowhere else in the country do people spit at you, throw bottles at you, throw quarters at you, throw batteries at you and say, 'Hey, I did your mother last night...she's a whore.' I talked about what degenerates they were, and they proved me right. Just by saying something, I could make them mad enough to go home and slap their moms."
On whether he would ever play for the New York Yankees or the New York Mets;
"I'd retire first. It's the most hectic, nerve-racking city. Imagine having to take the 7 Train to the ballpark looking like you're riding through Beirut next to some kid with purple hair, next to some queer with AIDS, right next to some dude who just got out of jail for the fourth time, right next to some 20-year-old mom with four kids. It's depressing... The biggest thing I don't like about New York are the foreigners. You can walk an entire block in Times Square and not hear anybody speaking English. Asians and Koreans and Vietnamese and Indians and Russians and Spanish people and everything up there. How the hell did they get in this country?"

Amazing city to visit.....but not best to live at unless you got "f you" kind of money.
Had this exact conversation with the SO today. I would only want to live in NYC if I had an obnoxious amount of money. Live on Park, have a personal driver, eat at the best restaurants NYC has to offer, etc. Otherwise, F living there.

New York people are actually very nice.
That's been my experience.

At $300 per night for a hotel, there are a lot of other cities that I would visit before I booked anything more than a long weekend there. Just about all NYC has to offer can be gotten in another city with less hassle.
This is pretty much it for me. Too expensive, and I have other priorities for spending my money.

Wife and I went right before Christmas...awesome trip. I recommend it to everyone. A ton to see and do

Wrong. Even the most venerable restaurants in New Orleans would struggle there, the competition is obscene. That's just fact. you can walk into some random italian, asian, french restaurant in NYC that will blow your mind

Debatable and smacks of narrow mindedness.

greatest to live. Can't beat that.
Not debatable.
There are several places that shite all over NYC. Colorado, Arizona and Texas for one.

Traveled to Europe, LA, and San Diego in 2014. NYC is still my favorite place. Been twice and still new stuff to see and do.
Looking forward to possibly going to NYC for a couple of days and then taking the train to Syracuse for the LSU game in September.

We will be making the drive from Boston to Syracuse. Only 4 hours or so.

Really? Just seems like an ignorant mindset. First of all, you can get a decent hotel room for less than $300 a night, particularly if you're not here at a super busy time. Second of all the "can find everything else somewhere else" thing just seems weird. It's like saying why go to Rome when I can get italian food at the local pizzeria and watch gladiator on DVD.

Exactly. My husband has never been. Hopefully we can take a trip there sometime so he can finally go. I've only been twice...and both times I was only there like 2 days so I would love to be able to stay longer and explore more of the city(museums, etc).

NYC is absolutely awesome. If you acted like a ignorant redneck tourist, you probably got treated like one.
If you research a lot, know what you're doing and where you're going, you'll have a blast.
You will never run out of things to do. And the food... Goddamn.
