Food is subpar?? Yeah, I can see that if you only ate in Times Square at fast food restaurants and chains. Beyond that NYC has some of the best restaurants in the world.

You did nothing but bitch about Times Square and now it's the greatest place in America?

I have been many many times, and will be there at least twice this month. And no. It's not even close to the greatest place in America.

People there are not "southern" friendly simply because life there moves way too fast. It is not that they are rude.....they just don't have time to give a damn.

But each time I asked a tourist question....it was answered.

Being the greatest place to live or visit is entirely subjective. If you love it so much, move there.

You'd be surprised how liberating it is to not have to drive and sit in city traffic and have what you need in waking distance. Good exercise to that's why everyone isn't fat

Not true at all. Waiters and shop clerks were all super friendly.

You can't be serious.

Hotels... yes. Eats? No. Transportation? No, if you take the subways.

gotta walk everywhere,

Well, to the stations... but I walked from the new World Trade Center all the way up back to W.46th Street, with detours through Chinatown, Little Italy, and Greenwich Village. Walking is a mindset... one I've always loved.

It's okay. Lots of things to do. At $300 per night for a hotel, there are a lot of other cities that I would visit before I booked anything more than a long weekend there. Just about all NYC has to offer can be gotten in another city with less hassle.

It is the greatest food destination in the US by far.

That is not up for debate.

Yep. And the rude comments are made by southerners that have never even been. New York people are actually very nice. Sure they won't say Howdy y'all and wave to a stranger, but they love showing off their city

This...we went in the summer a few years ago and it was so humid and hot and the subway felt like hell. Went again Dec. 2013 and loved it. It wasn't that cold but did snow a bunch one day which was cool.

I went to pay my respects, hope there is never another need. Not my cup of tea, but to each their own.

Southern friendly is mostly bullshite. New Orleans Westbank, for example, has the rudest people on earth.
