Is it wrong that I’m disappointed that the US doesn’t have some sort of weaponry that can blow this thing up before it reaches land??

In fairness, we may. But they wouldn’t reveal something like that to the world for something that would be a relatively minor catastrophe potentially.
They’d hold it for an ICBM/catastrophic loss of life.
