harshly worded song

There was a time
when friendship was
never part of the plan.

A smile, A nod, A shared spotlight.
Then you said something
That makes people think "Cat fight!"

But I am bigger bigger bigger
You are smaller smaller smaller
And things will never be the same.

My words may sound
curt and fun,
But my hoards of fans
hit harder than a loaded shotgun.

There was a time
when friendship was
never part of the plan.

I mean it's all subjective anyway. She has her opinion. Many people have a different opinion.

Ok baw. I don't like Swift or find her music interesting at all. You say that I'm "dumb" for having a subjective opinion on her music and then follow that up with "well, music is all subjective anyway." And I'm dumb?

quote:

Taylor Swift is among the most successful pop artists ever. That is not subjective.

I never said she wasn't successful. There are lots of ultra successful pop stars. BTS is HUGE, but their music is like nails on a chalkboard for me. I have to find them interesting because they are popular?

quote:

Love comes off like an idiot. This is like Manziel criticizing Brady as a professional quarterback.

No it isn't. You are comparing professional athletes whose measure of greatness is objective (winning) vs professional entertainers who's measure of greatness is much more subjective. If Taylor Swift makes more money than The Beatles did as a band, does that make her more interesting than the Beatles? There's no way you will get unanimous agreement that she is.

Violet has some pretty dark themes, compared to Swifts candy arse music.

She isn't wrong about Swift

I'm not really big on either but comparing her to Madonna is ridiculous. Madonna doesn't hold a candle to Swift.

Swift has more musical talent at all levels from singing to playing instruments to production. She doesn't need to rely on trying to shock her audience w/over the top sexuality. She also doesn't treat her fans like shite.

Madonna is more in the Brittney Spears tier of artists.

I understand what she is saying, but she might not be interesting as an artist to her or to a lot of people. There are a lot of artist (in general, whether its music, painting, dancing, whatever) who are not interesting to me, but that doesn't mean anything because a lot of other people find them interesting.

Was NSYNC important and interesting? To me, not at all, but they had a target audience, they were good enough to put on entertaining concerts that their audience was willing to pay money to in order to go see.

Courtney Love is not interesting enough for anyone to care about her opinion.

Swift will be as basic and noninteresting as possible to be famous and have money. Just like starting out in country and switching to pop because she never sold anything in country. She geared her music around being as basic as possible to appeal to as many as possible instead of actually what she wanted to do.

It's mindless grocery store background music, and the fact that she's as popular as she is is a testament to the dumbing down and blandness of our current society.

People have been raking in millions off of the lowest common denominator for a long time. It's nothing new. Think of how brainless some of the early sitcoms were.

Nickelback is a highly successful rock band but I don't think anyone would bat an eye if someone called them uninteresting or bland. In fact the band has even embraced that image and just keeps laughing all the way to the bank. Good for them. I still think their music is boring

Love never said Swift wasn't successful so I don't know why you feel the need to bring that up. Love was asked her opinion and she gave it, it just doesn't appeal to her.

Bitches about lack of women being recognized in hall of fame, turns around and bashes some of the most commercially successful women in music of all time.

Its meaningless music.

There is a place for it, but it holds no importance.

LOL. Look at all these people thinking "their" music is any more meaningful/important than one of the most successful artists ever. I'd love to hear some of the oh so "important" music/lyrics of some of the super "meaningful" music the OT listens too.

It's just music. None of it is changing the world, even your music.

I don't listen to much pop music but I'm certainly not going to describe my music as "important" either.

Yep. Go actually read some of Elvis' lyrics. Or the Beatles. Or the Stones. Or Michael Jackson.

FYI: Elvis wrote ZERO of his lyrics, I realize you may not have implied that but he always sang someone's else's words.

I understand this, but melodically Taylor Swift’s music does not hold a candle to any of those artists. She has no groove or soul whatsoever.

It's not just females. Guys listen to mindless garbage too for the most part. It just describes our society as a whole
