If you didn't have your wife (or don't have one) would you be happy being a loner?

I often wonder about men's capacity to be a lonely hermit if the situation were to arise. I could see myself ending up alone in the woods til the end if it went that way.
I see women bitching about men in their 40's "not wanting anything serious" but I truly get it. I feel like if you made it that long without choosing to settle down, it's possible you might want to go through the second half of life in the exact same manner.

I like access to easy sex too much to ever be happy alone. Plus, my wife is a pretty hip gal.

I love being a loner but I love my wife and kids more. If I had never gotten married I believe by this age (late 30’s), I’d just live alone and be perfectly happy with grilling, cooking, and being by myself.

I told my wife if she dies and leaves me, I'm going to go buy land and adopt every senior animal that is unadoptable in my area and give it a good life for the rest if it's time or mine, whichever ends first.

In general, I prefer being alone. My wife knows I need my alone time each day and respects my need. I get along with people fine, but conversing exhausts me. The fun of being introverted!

This is the path. Get some land in a beautiful area, get a house that meets your needs, let the animals roam.

Married with kids. I have so many hobbies and projects, I long for quiet time to myself. That said, I don't think I could do that long term. Balance is needed
