If you could go back in time….

What exactly are the rules here?

Do you mean if I could just have a complete do-over, just choose the year I would be re-born in, be born and live my life all over again from that point forward?

If that's the framing, I would choose to be born a little earlier than I actually was. My real birthdate is in 1970. I'd probably choose to be born in 1960.

That would make me too young for Vietnam, but I'd still be old enough to remember the 60s and I'd be in high school in the mid-late 70s and college from the late 70s-early 80s.

IMO the best years for popular music were from the mid-60s through the early 80s and I would hit the back end of that era in the prime of my youth.

I'd be 30 at the start of the 90s, just right for taking advantage of the economic boom during that decade.

Then again, being born in 1970 kind of ruled too. I really don't have any complaints, although the chance to do it all over again would be awesome.

I'll tell you what I would really love the chance to do: I'd really love the chance to get to spend 30 years any way I chose. Meaning that I could choose to spend 2-3 years in the 40s, 2-3 years in the 50s, a few years in the 60s, probably most of the decades of the 70s and 80s and a few years in the 90s.

And I could choose my age for any specific year I wanted. I could go through the entire decade of the 70s being 18 if I wanted, for example. Or spend half of it as 18 and the other half as 30. Or start at 15 and age naturally for five years. Anything I chose.

I guess I would have to magically have some sort of source of income/housing/etc. and I don't know how that would work being under age with parents, etc.

But that's what I would love to do with a time machine.

I'd take being born in the 70s and coming of age in the 80s

An excellent choice.

I would never go backwards.

Life is much more comfortable today and will only get better unless there is a collapse.

I know 99.9% of the OT is delusional if they think they would enjoy the old days but the reality is they would be begging to get back to current time within hours.

There was no a/c, no deodorant, no toilet paper, no grocery stores or convenience stores. There was no electricity or paved roads, no indoor plumbing. You would be drinking untreated water or rotgut moonshine liquor. And today’s crowd without cell service could not function.

David Gilmour played the Gdansk Shipyard for the final concert of the On a Island Tour. And when Amazon starts selling time machines, that will be my first stop.

I second this bring me back to late 80s early 90s - tech isn’t light years away - society hasn’t gone mad yet. Could make some bank in the market assuming you had memories

I wouldn't mind getting to try out the 80s/90s00s as an adult. I was born in 89.

I wouldn't mind just going back to 1996. The end of Gen X was pretty good. No cellphones, no internet, and just normal bullshite to contend with in life.

Agreed, but we did have cell phones. Just couldn't use your minutes until after 7pm.

But I would love to go the the mall again with the squad then head home to watch some MTV Spring Break or TRL. Those were the days.

The roaring 20s for me. Illegal Booze, parties, the dancing, the clothes, the gangsters…..

Followed immediately by the Great Depression. Sounds like a blast. Great choice!
