I usually let them finish and then I illustrate the inconsistencies with their last version(s) of the story.

I generally will say that, ooooooh, I remember you telling me that. And, most times, they tell it anyway.

I have a buddy that tells me drunk stories and tells them again sober the next day. We have been friends a long time and I usually stop him right away and we both laugh.

I let them retell it if I like the person.
My wife certainly does not afford me this luxury lol

Depends on who it is. If it's an older person, I generally let it slide. If it's someone my age, they get like 3 retellings and then I start saying something to the affect of "Oh I remember this story, didn't you xxxxxx".

depends on who, and how many times i've heard this shite.

You tell them. Nobody has time to hear a re-gifted story more than once.

I let them go the first time they tell me to see if they changed it up and if a major detail is different I will say "the last time you told me story you said ____________".. If its an older person I let it go, but if not.. I let the 2nd time pass, but after that I will hit them with a "damn son.. how many times you are going to tell that story?"..

I hate Boudreaux and Thibodaux jokes that go one forever, so I always finish them as soon as I know which one of them it is. My wife has her CTOW's, Calamitous Tales of Woe, in which someone pays dearly for not heading her advise. As soon as she launches into one I do an Olympic eye roll, it does not stop her.

Yes, and as an avid story-teller, I appreciate it when someone tells me.

I love it when people tell me a story that I told them.

It’s kind of like “the aristocrats.” Joke.
A hundred different people can tell the same story a hundred different ways a hundred different times.
A good storyteller will make you not care that you’ve heard it over and over, and a bad storyteller will make you wish you’d never heard it at all.
