re: If, say, 75% of people who send their kids to private school, sent them to public schools

The kids failing now would be failing then
It's not the job of parents to save public schools, it's the job of parents to ensure their kids get a quality education in a decent social setting

I see from your sentence construction that you went to public school.

I just wonder how it would change things if any.
So to your pondering, it would be a boon to the schools and a tragedy for the students.

Conversely, an influx of role model parents can and have made important changes on minority students. Especially those in sports. When economic minority kids get a chance to befriend people who only see them as a kid, it works. Works on the white kids as well. Friends are friends and it can flow up. Rural towns who have a strong bond via sports, in Texas, really prove this.

It would take a while, and would eventually work.
But the early on kids would be so fricked the parents would never do it.
The obvious solution is to have enough parents with kids at the school that give a damn.
States all over the south manage to have perfectly fine public schools, this whole Catholic or private school is just a Louisiana thing.

I recall this from a few years ago, kids tend to improve on test scores in the public schools, especially in BR.
But in private schools, you have males with two parent households, and they tend to test better than anyone. So they were already ahead of the curve come HS. not as much room for actual improvement.

Fixed. It's really not a problem in North LA. There are private schools, but they're all small. You don't see 4A-5A size private schools here.

What if the people who sent their kids to private school got a tax cut since they're not using the public education system resources?

We didn’t have any black kids the entire time I was in school. I think there was two in the history of the school.

Is it really the government that ruined public schools in Louisiana?
I saw some really good small schools ruined by bussing in kids.

People in better together Baton Rouge or work or belong to BRAF or BRAC, should be required by law to send their kids to non magnet public schools in their area.
If they think the school system is as Buckwheat said,”Otay”, they should be taking advantage of this fine jewel BR has to offer.

If your kid has a disagreement with a kid in a private school, and you try to resolve it with the parents of that kid, you generally get a rational and constructive response. Public school ? Good lord, the parents are often worse than the kid. That’s a factor in K- 8 especially.

Oweo are you crazy? I sent my kids to private schools because they get a religious background and are taught about morality and good citizenship. My kids are also surrounded by and socialize with the children of some of the most successful and brightest people in Baton Rouge. I am giving my kids the best chance to succeed in life by sending them to private schools. And for your information I am white and so are my children. They both have black friends that they hang out with routinely. It is not about race at all in my situation.

Maybe if it was 90% private school kids.
Anything less-nope.

that's the point. If you had an influx of parents who gave a frick about grades, you don't think public schools would improve dramatically?
Initially sure, although the pontential for dropoff due to bad dragging down the good is not a risk most good parents are willing to take with regards to their children. Kinda what makes them good parents. See how that works?

I'm being serious. Do new neighborhoods not build in new elementaries if its calculated overcrowding will occur to the nearest/neighboring k-4/5?
So was I. Bemused laughter is the only response to that question because tortured weeping is not manly.
This is East Baton Rouge. You line the right pockets and you can build your 400 unit subdivision wherever you like; zoning, road capacity, access to other parts of the parish, drainage, and infrastructure concerns be damned.
It's cute you think we have neighborhood schools. Thanks to a jackass federal judge, that new subdivision is getting shipped all over the parish to whatever shitty school has room to sardine them in while they do nothing to eliminate the discipline problems while completely failing to teach your kid.
