I don't know, I think it's kind of natural. My wife is amazing, and the best thing that's ever happened to me, but there are times she gets on my last nerve. I don't make a habit of bitching about her, but it's not all roses every single day.

I agree with you on people I know that constantly bitch about their spouse. I really don't care to hear it. The occasional, light-hearted comment doesn't bother me and I don't take those comments as a reflection on their marriage.

Got to admit, not a big fixer guy myself

I use the line from the Andy Griffith show...... “Aunt B...call the man” if something breaks

To be clear, I am not talking about innocent, ephemeral gripes.

"I wish my husband would stop putting so much salt on everything and keeping the TV so loud!!"

is not the same as

"My husband is basically useless and dumb."

I know couples that basically fight every time they drink. They get liquored up and the true feelings start to come out. Snide comments, outright hostility, etc. I feel really bad that they have to live every second of their lives on guard, knowing their other half may be against them.

I will never understand it from either side. Miserable people who seem to legitimately despise their spouses. I didn't grow up with parents like that (my parents adore each other), so it just blows my mind to see it.

One lady I used to work with talked shite about her husband all the time. She seemed to loathe him. Well, he left her and met someone else and she was blindsided.

This is 100% myopic drivel consumed and popularized by men who are blind to their own serious deficiencies. Are there many self-centered, worthless women out there? Yes, but that is because there are many self-centered, worthless people out there, men included.

People who are attractive, smart, kind, generous, and successful get snatched up fast. The leftovers are the single moms looking for "real men" to raise their bastard children and the loser men blaming "hypergamy" as the reason why he never married the homecoming queen.

Then they started talking about how useless their husbands were. Some said they’d never trust their husband to fix a clogged sink because they’re such idiots, etc.

I don't see this as a reason to not respect your husband.

Neither one of us are particularly handy if an appliance breaks or something like that, but we sure know how to write a check to someone who is. I don't have to worry about whether I trust him with plumbing because I trust him to pick up the phone and pay someone who can.

I think a lot of these issues would get better if people started putting down their phones, computers, and remotes more often. We don't interact with each other in person anymore.

No offense, but I don't think this has anything to do with the topic. People have bitched and disrespected their spouses behind their backs long before tech entered the picture. It is a trope that entire sitcoms were based around.

Yep. When someone constantly complains about their spouse, all I can think is "you chose this! What does that say about you? You willingly chose to have an unhappy life. Please don't come to me for emotional or financial support when this all goes south. I am not your spouse."

Have a friend like this. They are in a nasty marriage. Constantly arguing/fighting. Doesn't matter where: at home in front of their 3 kids, in public, on the phone. They are MISERABLE. So bad that we won't go anywhere with them and have told him exactly why. It's not fun and it's embarrassing.

One of our mutual friends asked what many have mentioned on here--you knew exactly who you were marrying and why are you still there? His reply: well, that's just the way it is.

I want to feel sorry for him, but just can't--this was his choice to jump in and his choice to stay.

It's amazing how many people don't understand this. After a minute of hearing someone run down their spouse I know just about everything I need to know about that person.

Worked with a lady like that, except she was also having an affair with a guy in their neighborhood. Her husband found out, told the other wife, so her misery ended up destroying 2 marriages.

Those women are all overweight snd they need to keep their hair in check and stop clogging the damn drain. How dare they criticize their husbands when it’s their nappy arse hair clogging things up in the 1st place.

I swear if I could go back in time I wouldn’t get married. All my single and divorced friends have a great life. My wife isn’t that bad but yeh..I’d prefer being single.

Serious question: don't you think that your wife probably knows that you feel this way?

I do this on purpose so she just calls someone to fix it next time. I don’t have time for that shite, especially during hunting season

Well I have zero training in plumbing but fix everything myself because to hire a professional would take away from the wife’s $100.00 haircut and $60 pedicure and the cleaners, Amazon, etc etc etc .....not to mention going to restaurants constantly.
