If any of y'all have a child that swims competitively, we can all celebrate.

the ending of short course swim season. For those that qualified "Best of the South," my prayers are with you. Lawd, when my child started swimming, I never, in a million years, would believe that at age 14, my kid would have a personal swim coach, a breaststroke coach, and a frickin personal strength coach - all above and beyond his regular practices which are 2 hours a day and 3 hours on Saturday.

Onward to Long Course.

Travel Swimming

Any youth sports these days are about how much money the family is willing to spend to be the best!

Is your kid named Brayden, Jayden, Aiden, or Braxton by chance?

That's travel baseball.

Swimming is more like Hadleigh, Harrison IV, etc.

Not nearly as expensive as it sounds. No where close to baseball, soccer, football, or other travel sports.

It was like this when I swam in the 90s. Then it was largely a club sport, so the school sponsored you by you largely trained on your own with private coaches and club teams.

I don't know why you're posting here when you should be delivering pizzas so you can get your kid some more coaches. Get with the program, dad.

I swam growing up. I swam for a club team and my school team. We did the training and conditioning during practices, and in off season. I trained on my own with a trainer off season. My kids aren’t in swimming. 7-8 am swim meets, all day long. Ugh. I understand why my parents popped in and out and never stayed the entire time. Didn’t love that at the time but I suppose I understand. Sports for kids these days is draining and expensive.

When we lived in California, my stepdaughter swam competitively and even qualified for the LA FD junior lifeguards. She went to the beach and helped lifeguards every day for the summer. Good times.

Those California Beach lifeguards don't play. They'd have them running in the sand for a few hrs every day.

My wife was a 2X state champion swimmer and did it without any of that.

Probably not the subtle brag you think it is, maybe put money away for their college/future house/ wedding instead of spending it on dumb shite like a breast stroke coach.

One of my kids swims for our neighborhood team. It’s like his 5th sport so it’s pretty auxiliary. He’s good at it but it’s rather low on the priority list.

For most, long course is a giant waste of time. Short course is where it's at.

My kid is into it. I think it’s a great sport for kids today. There is a clear winner and loser - scores are kept. Not everyone gets a trophy.

That said, we are only a couple years in and haven’t hit the pace you’re at yet. I’m curious to see if my kid stays interested or if it gets to be a job.

Tell him to compete as a woman and he won’t have to have all those coaches.
