Ian Thread Appreciation/Ian killed my Dad

I thought it important to let the many folks here who participated in the Ian thread how it affected lurkers like myself.
I retired from Talquin Electric Coop (just West of Tallahassee) a couple years ago to be with my aging parents in Largo, nestled between St Pete and Clearwater. Been watching hurricanes for 40 years, saw Michael up close and personal, and the moment I saw the Ian models about 8 days out, it scared the frick out of me. Stumbled on the Ian thread around Friday, and wished I'd known about this board 20 years ago.
My folks and I packed up what we could, expecting everything else to be gone, and went to Fort Pierce. Before we left at 6 am that Tuesday, I watched the radar and said to myself, "it's doing a Charley" (I watched the Charley turn from Tally and told my parents not to leave St Pete), but that bastard was so big, and my folks are in their 80s...
Ian does his Charley imitation, and on Thursday we have a huge sigh of relief that our houses are safe. That night my Dad has a massive brain bleed, and for the next week he is in a coma. My Mom, sister and I go through the excruciating process of watching his body die knowing the essential he, my Dad, was gone.
I hadn't been able to keep up with the Ian thread due to travel and the whirlwind of things happening, but in the hard moments of sitting in hospice next to my Dad, to pass time I would read a page or two of the Ian thread. I was most interested in how that 24 hours of landfall had transpired, but the added tidbits of compassion and well wishes really did make a difference during a very difficult time.
I thank everyone who participated in that thread, whether for information and/or compassion. Y'all fricking rock.
I will go to my grave blaming Ian for my Dad's death. Less than 24 hours after the center passed within 100 miles, his 82 year old brain ruptured. That's enough for me.
To those South of me, who weren't as lucky as I, there are not adequate words, just prayers.

I am truly sorry for your loss, but you are spot on with this board when it comes to storms. People are able to check on each other as well as properties and neighborhoods throughout the storms. I would put this board up against any other storm info website or whatever. They couldn't touch how far and wide the storm threads are able to reach information, tips etc. I hope you and your family are able to properly grieve and at some point move on when it's right

Certainly sorry about your dad's passing. Not trying to be tacky, but just what is "doing a Charley?"

Charley and Ian both turned further south and avoided the bulk of the Tampa/St. Pete area.

During Sally, I was able to update family and friends on here easier than Facebook and text messaging while I was stranded in Ft Morgan, AL. Had an ATT cell tower across the road and had no service but Mediacom was up and I had my laptop.

That's not tacky, sorta an inside joke. NHC had Charley as a direct hit on Tampa, I saw it change direction about 8 hours before NHC changed their warnings. I told my folks then not to leave, but they went to Vero Beach, toward the storm.
This time, as we got to Ft Pierce, I watched the radar and saw Ian making the same turn and said to my Mom "Ian's pulling a Charley".
Charley went directly over the same area Ian did, but Charley was a tiny storm.

Sorry for your loss. I'll never forget a year or two ago, I was at work in Port Allen, LA late at night an d a bad line of storms was passing through the State. There was a thread about it and someone a few miles up the road was able to give me a heads up what to expect. Gave me time to bring my truck in the warehouse to avoid the hail. We had trees down and everything after that storm.

Sorry to hear that, bud.
We have the weather threads for multiple reasons. The most important of those is exactly what you mentioned, to try to help folks. Even if Louisiana isn't in the crosshairs, this place will come through.
Losing your Dad is tough, I know that from experience. I'll say a prayer for you and your family. Be there for your Mom, and let the rest of the family be there for you. My condolences.

They think the pressure ruptured his brain?

The helpless feeling of watching your Father die will always be with you. It won't be as bad, but it's there.
For me, it's been a sort of a "oh, this could be much worse, remember when" that I pull out when things aren't going well.
I survived that, I can survive pretty much anything.
strong thoughts for you and yours.

No, but an RN mentioned it in passing while trying to be consoling, and it seems reasonable to me so I'm gonna run with it.

Sorry for your loss. Losing your parents is tough and we all go through it at some point.
I lost my dad 20 years ago and still have an old answering machine with messages he had left on it. It’s not much but hearing his voice once in a while helps.
You seem like good people hope you hand around and keep us updated.
