Anyone know if this is true:

With a Cat 5 designation a homeowner's insurance would be liable for the total damages. Cat 4 or lower, most homeowners are on the hook for a percentage. If a Cat 4 storm is subsequently re-evaluated as a 5, but that reclassification happens after the "window" for claims, homeowners are not refunded for their deductibles.

Only thing to worry about is just hard the insurance company is gonna frick the policy holder

For that to be the case, your policy would have to explicitly state that. I do this for a living, and I have never seen a policy that says that, or anything like that.

If only...windstorm insurance kicks in after any named storm, there is no "deductible" refund. And in Florida, your deductible is typically 5% of the insured value.

If insurance companies refunded those deductibles, they would go bankrupt.

I’m watching Ryan Hall and what is he using to talk to the storm chasers? Are they using a HAM radio? If not what are they using?

Insurance companies in Florida about to go under just like in LA and most will increase hurricane deductibles and stop writing altogether.

Coastal insurance is going to be a thing of the past sooner than you think

If you've been following what's going on in LA with Laura and Ida, good luck.

Not to mention flood insurance from FEMA which is likely gonna be too expensive for most to afford

This is what bothers and worries me the most about hurricanes. It isn't the storm, and it wouldn't even be the damage that could put me in an early grave. It is fighting the fricking insurance companies for a year while they nickel, dime, and screw you every chance they get.

LA isn’t big enough to effect change.

Maybe if we join forces with Florida we can

This is not exactly correct. They are the same companies. The ones who have gone bankrupt wrote policies all over the Gulf South and are going kaput. I know of a couple who pulled out of La but are still writing in Florida, and this storm may do them in.

I agree that we will soon all be unable to get insurance.

A lot of the companies you see that were writing in Louisiana were based out of Florida

It didn't use to be that way. After Ivan, my insurance company paid me more than I actually claimed, in that they paid me for stuff I didn't even consider.

After Sally, well...it's in litigation, with the state insurance trust because my insurance company went bankrupt

It was rare to get a Cat 4/5 landfall, until about 2017.

We've had Harvey, Michael, Laura, Ida, and now Ian in 5 years.

These high end hurricanes actually wreck shite with the wind.
