These I storms always over achieve.

I went to bed the IR looked like it was losing gas and wake up to a monster.

Driving in wind that's only going to increase is dangerous. Also potentially hitting road jams would be bad. At this point if you haven't evacuated I think it's better to stay and ride it out.

okay, real question. I got people in zephyrhills, about 30 miles almost straight NE of tampa, so that NW quadrant looks to go right through them. how bad are they fricked? they've got plenty of food/water/booze and a generator on 10ish acres with horses.

Honestly? Not very much as long as the heaviest rain stays just to their south. Wind shouldn't be too bad there. Power might go out.

At least they'll have an endless supply of bottled water in Zephyrhills.

Thanks stout.

We're supposed to be at peak winds here now. Sustained 50.

I am so saddened by what is fixing to happen to Florida. It will look like a bulldozer went through where that eyewall first penetrates. Prays for the people that stayed.

Better to regret leaving when you didn't have to than regret staying when you should not have.

The storm is awful, and 155mph ain't much different than 156mph, but we don't have to wish it there when we can see the thing right in front of us.

Hurricane Hunter Recon is currently investigating Hurricane #Ian this morning. The results are pretty interesting.

Recon has found close to around 135-140kt flight-level winds in the Eyewall (subtract a bit for surface estimate).
137kts is Category 5.

Amen brother. My threshold is anything above a 2 and I’m out. And it depends on the characteristics of the 2. I might leave for that as well.

Those drops were flagged, FYI, but regardless, I'm talking about the central pressure.

Again, this is all relative - 3-4 hours ago this thing was dropping 2mb per hour, and that has since leveled off. 3-4 hours ago the winds on Ian increased 15mph in 1 hour, that has since leveled off. To argue otherwise is asinine.

Wut? Flooding/ surge/ water kills more people than anything. If you aren’t in an area water flooding will get above your house then leaving in the middle of a storm is statistically idiotic.

But he is in or is very close to a surge area. Driving in 50 mph winds is better than floating out.
