Heard earlier on the local news that the Sarasota-Manatee county line area would take a direct hit. Don’t know if they’re still saying that. That’s exactly where I am. Hurricane shutters up, everything outside brought in, sandbags in place, bath tub filled, and hunkered down now. I’m sure I will wish we had evacuated, but it just wasn’t possible due to work. Tonight would have been the earliest we could leave and being on the road now is no bueno. I’m not a drinker (sober for 3 years, thank God) but I did make sure to have lots of food to stress eat.Really worried about how our dog will do- the winds are supposed to be at least tropical storm force for 36-48 hrs so I have no idea how we will take him out. Going to stress eat a crap ton of ice cream now.

I remember ‘04.

I went through 2 eyes that year cat 2 and 3 (frances & Jeanne), like 2 weeks apart. No smart phones so listened to updates on a battery powered radio sitting in the dark with the wind blasting against the house.

Alys is on 30A in the Panhandle, adjacent to other towns/resorts you hear on here (Rosemary, Seagrove, Seaside, Watercolor, Grayton, etc.).

It's not going to be impacted in any real way by Ian. In fact a buddy of mine is taking is family to Alys this weekend, so not much concern.

Hurricane Ian could be among the costliest storms in US history. That is likely to lead insurance companies to sell some of their Treasury holdings to raise money to pay claims, which in turn will help spur inflation. Damage estimates are $45 to $70 billion

Also some oil shut down in gulf in preparation for the unknown

Thanks, that's good to know.

Still concerned about St. Pete Beach.

That area in upper right of the photo is Cape Coral, where there are thousands of homes. There is an extensive network of tidal canals in Cape Coral that will act as a conduit for surge to inundate those homes. Not going to be pretty.

Those pilots must have applied for HH positions and got rejected. This is their chance.

St. Pete going to be about the same or worse than Tampa as far as storm surge goes?

The last I saw they said a little less. The water it's pushing up there has somewhere to escape to.
