What happened to the shear?

It’s still expected to impact Ian, but that won’t happen until closer to landfall, after it reaches peak intensity.

The latest HWRF shows exactly that in these three images. Ian will be so well-defined that he will be very close to landfall before the shear and land interaction will begin the weakening process.

Disclaimer: This is just one model, but it is one of the best there is for modeling hurricanes.

My parents live 15 miles west of Panama City, FL. I remember watching this thread and how yall were saying it's going to RI. I called her and said to get out. Got a few questions as to why a site called Tigerdroppings was the main weather source, but always thankful in these events for the true weather baws

Teal71 is now inside Ian, should be getting some good data soon.

(Insert Texas A&M jokes here about being “inside Ian”)

Evacuating from downtown Tampa and headed towards West Palm Beach is still a good idea I take it?

That's if you can get them to pull out.

I feel like large swaths of AMI, Holmes Beach, and Longboat Key are going to get blown away if this track holds.

Looks like Cuba was nothing more than a speed bump for Ian unfortunately.

Latest model runs are initializing too weak coming off Cuba. Ian could be stronger at landfall than the runs are showing

Appreciate yalls concern. If I-75 was not the only major highway to get out of the peninsula then it would be a no brainer.

No kids. If you look at that map and see Lutz at the very top, I am directly across from there on the other side of I-75.

Also live in a 2 Story House.

It is a risk, but would rather be at home than stuck on the highway if this thing decided to change course or accelerate.

We just bought on LBK. I was eventually going to tear it down and build our retirement home but not for another 10+ years. Looks like Ian might take care of that for me.

In-laws own a beach condo in the middle section of the island near Bayfront Park, hoping that their full-time neighbors all got out.

They are essentially barrier islands and mostly flat. Not a single structure will be spared. Hopefully they find a way to rebuild it like it is/was, but I wouldn't be surprised to see all that Sarasota money come in make it what it shouldn't be.

Also, doesn’t the climate actually change by definition? Isn’t that what a climate does?

Yes which is why the climate alarmists are idiotic. Man’s contribution to climate shifts are so minimal that it doesn’t matter that much. We could stop burning all fossil fuels tomorrow and it might delay the inevitable by a few decades at most. But doing so would destroy the world economy leading to famines, civil unrest, wars that would kill millions of people. Way more than any climate crisis will in our lifetime.

If the climate really were in danger of a radical shift we would be better off recognizing that it’s going to happen and we can’t stop it, there’s no reason to destroy our way of life and economy, so just put resources toward making sure any radical shift in climate has a minimal effect. Shore up levees around important cities that could flood if sea levels rise. Better building codes. Better infrastructure. But they don’t do this because it’s all bullshite, climate shifts occur slowly over thousands of years and we adapt as we go along. It’s all political and for control of people by using fear
