When I was young and stupid at LSU we found our way to the catwalk under the MS River bridge and walked to the other side and back at 2am.
I'm lucky I survived my tenure at LSU.
The catwalk only had a single horizontal bar at waist height to keep you from falling in the river.

I did that a few times with a group of friends in the late 80s.
The last time we did it, I decided to take the enclosed ladder up to the edge of the traffic lanes. I peeked around one of the supports and got honked at by a few drivers.
We hauled arse and as we were getting close to the piling where we climbed down to ground level, I saw police lights above us and heard police radio traffic. Didn't do it again after that...

Apparently this was not uncommon. We did the same. Certainly not the same group, since we're all still friends and talk abut it periodically.
It was terrifying, particularly when big trucks passed over. The whole thing shakes. I absolutely would not be capable of doing that now, though back then we had liquid courage fueling our stupidity.

Well, they always jump. I've got news for you. It's a little secret from the trade. They all jump.
