If a reprieve doesn't come, 67-year-old Sigmon will be strapped to a chair at 6 p.m. (Eastern) in the state's death chamber, facing a rectangular hole in the wall 15 feet away.

The above shows the execution chamber in the Department of Corrections’ Columbia prisons complex, as seen from the witness room. The firing squad chair (left) was added following a 2021 state law that made death by firing squad an option. The electric chair is under the cover. (Provided by the S.C. Department of Corrections)

Apparently. I bet that's a flak jacket type material covered right behind the chair.

I'm just fascinated with the method he chose. Notoriety if I had to guess.

Now that it's here, I bet he's thinking, "I probably should have gone with the gas."

Read what he did. He deserves much worse than a firing squad.

I see a larger version of one of these bullet traps behind the chair

Also, look at the bottom of the curtain - I see a fresh brick wall behind that curtain.

quote:

South Carolina spent about $54,000 in 2022 constructing an area for a firing squad in its death chamber. It won't be far from the electric chair.

Reporters, family members of Sigmon's victims and his lawyer will view the execution inside the same building used for all executions over the past 35 years, although prison officials say the glass separating the witness room from the death chamber is now bulletproof. Sigmon can give a last statement if he wishes.

quote:

The state will use .308-caliber Winchester 110-grain TAP Urban ammunition often found in police rifles, said Colie Rushton, the director of Security and Emergency Operations at the Corrections Department.

While understanding the concept of the death penalty, I am not fascinated with watching people die. Sick people behavior

Thats gonna make a mess.

Imagine the cleaning people that will have to clean up the bits of brain and skull in a massive pool of blood. Think they’ll make the other death row inmates clean it up?

Doesn't look like it.

quote:

According to the state protocols, Sigmon will wear his prison-issued uniform and be strapped into a chair within the death chamber.

“A hood will be placed over his head. A small aim point will be placed over his heart by a member of the execution team,” according to the summary of the protocol provided by the DOC.

Each of the three executioners is an employee of the Department of Corrections and volunteered to be part of the team, Chrysti Shain, a spokesperson for the department told CNN.

The firing squad will fire from 15 feet away. Witnesses will see the right-side profile of the condemned inmate, according to the DOC.

Each of the executioners will fire once from their rifles using .308a Winchester TAP Urban bullets. The bullet provides rapid expansion and fragmentation, Shain added.

After the shots, the inmate will be examined by a doctor. Once they are declared dead, a curtain will be drawn and the witnesses escorted out, according to the protocol.

So, what’s wrong with the electric chair?

It wouldn’t bother me one bit if they put the barrel of the rifle in his fxcking mouth. Eye for an eye!

Looks like some kind of ballistic material, maybe designed to stop the bullets and not ricochet.

I suspect only one will have a live bullet and none of them will know which one.

No guilt

His heart and not his head?

It’ll kill him but not immediately. He’ll feel the pain and remain conscious for at least a few seconds maybe more.

Eta:
The down votes are hilarious! Explain how this man shot in his heart will lose consciousness instantly?

Head shot = lights go out
