Indoor malls are a thing of the past. They are closing left and right around the country.

Chic Fil A closing last year signaled the death throes.

Chic Fil A in Cortana was actually busy.

You just don't get it.... that part of town was da shite 30 years ago... now the property values are at an all-time low...... low income families are taking over that area and continue to move eat on FLA Blvd... it's not even close to what it used to be.....

I'm amazed that malls still exist. Everything is cheaper and more convenient online. Other than a place for teenagers to hang out, why do we still have these structures taking up space in our cities?

Any other place yeah it would, but EBR is upside down, the parish will probably buy it at a premium.

If you bought paint from the Cortana Sears in the early 90's, you may have bought it from me. I will pour one out for Cortana today.

So, we can add "purveyor of paint" to your resume?

Is there anything poultry can't do?!

Agreed. Foot locker type stores were the only thing bringing people in.

While you were pouring paint I was loading vehicles in the warehouse at Service Merchandise.

I agree they will either knock it down building office space or rent it out to tenants that cater to the unique community of NBR. They could build a charity hospital with ER along with doctor offices in that spot.

The old rebel shopping center is now where Baton Rouge Community College along with some land that was used by the state.

Now that I am old enough the delta airlines stewardess that pinned those delta airlines wings on me during the Cortana mall grand opening in the 1970's can show back up. I can pin those wings on her. I wonder if she is still a nice looking young blonde?

As Chris Rock put it, "every town has two malls. The one white people go to and the one white people used to go to."

Cortana has been dead for 15 years. And with malls becoming a thing of the past anyway, the Mall of Louisiana is beginning its decline as we speak. It's easier and better to shop online, and with videos of brawls at malls all over the country popping up, it's just a matter of time before the people with money (of all races) just say "to hell with that" completely.

I agree.

Most mall now are strip malls were you can drive up to the store to get what you want if you choose not to shop online.

The days of teenagers and pre teens hanging out at the indoor mall is over.

It is sad the younger generation does not remember Cortana Mall in its prime. That place would be packed Friday and Sat night. During the Xmas shopping season the parking lot was so packed people parked in the field across the street from the mall.

Didn't they have a shooting at a bar or restaurant across from Piccadilly back in the 70's or early 80's?
