You should've seen me riding 9W in Jersey a few years ago with my buddy. Lots of time on Zwift or riding solo in St Tammany. Not a whole lot of experience riding in a group or taking a pull on the front of a paceline. I was probably scaring the shite out of everyone

We all have bikes. We ride them on BIKE TRAILS. I don’t block traffic.
I am going to lobby for law to limit bikes to 6 riders on public roads. There are literally zero passing lanes on our road for 20 miles. None.

Same ole shite. A bunch of fat and stupid people complaining about someone exercising. Yes, Louisianans are fat and stupid. It doesn’t need its own thread. The post in this thread along with every measurable metric confirm this conclusion.

I'm a cyclist. I typically do 150 or so miles a week, most of it early Saturday morning. I've been doing that for over twenty years. There are indeed a bunch of cyclists that do inappropriate things.
I would include riding many miles on a busy two lane road with no shoulders or bike lanes as inappropriate. That disqualifies a lot of roads in South Louisiana. To knock all of us because of the actions of a few is a problem for the those of us that try to behave, stay far to the right, obey the laws, and make better decisions about where/when to ride. Irrational anger towards all cyclists is just another one of the "isms". And for those that don't understood the outfit, part of it is so you see us. When done right, it's a great sport for good health.

My daughter’s bike is pretty similar.
Is it hard to believe people ride bikes on bike trails instead of strapping on a dildo and riding on public roads?

People? No. You, absolutely

I hate that - especially when they have tinted windows and think I can see them waving me through (at least I think that's what's happening, they could just be on their phone). I learned to just look away and put both feet on the ground until they give up and move.
I actually want cars to obey the rules of the road and not just randomly try to yield the right-of-way to me, it makes them more predictable and lets me anticipate better. Sometimes people just freak out when they see a bike, and start doing stupid shite.

Bicycle laws made in the 20s for people to commute shouldn’t apply to these assholes hiding behind it for recreation

The amount of ignorance in these threads about cyclists training for races, centuries and triathlons is astounding.
Too weary to explain why they do what they do and all I can say is I am blessed with 100s of miles of mostly empty glorious Natchez trace in my backyard to ride and train on without having 100 people start a thread to bitch about me.

All road cyclists don’t follow traffic laws. ALL OF THEM. Run red lights, run stop signs, don’t yield, don’t signal,
This also happens to apply to all road motorists, all of them. The only thing missing that bikes don't do is speeding - which all motorists do.

they cause dangerous driving conditions.
As do all motorists.
People on the road just suck in general.

I can’t imagine anyone having the desire to commute to work via a bike. Sounds miserable.

So far in this thread, we have people complaining that cyclists shouldn't ride on: -rural roads -suburban roads -busy roads -highways
Basically people are upset cyclists ride on roads. Why is this shocking to you? The OT loses their collective mind (myself included) when someone says they want to drive 70 mph in the left lane.
Why would a large mass of travelers going 10-30 mph below the speed limit not set us off?

This right here. I ride a similar amount weekly. I have a deep appreciation for the difference in mass and velocity of me on my bike vs an angry and impatient baw in a 2 ton F-150. I always get out of the way and stay off of main roads.

Bashing all drivers is as bad as bashing all cyclists. I see a lot of great drivers on the road while riding. Yes, its the actions of a few that cause problems. I will say that if I get a ticket for speeding while riding a bike I'm probably going to frame it.

Same experience. The most dangerous part of my rides is the to and from my group ride on Saturday morning. It’s through town on streets and also on the most used part of the rails to trails. It’s 8.5 miles each way of cars, stop signs, and people and/or their animals taking up the entire rails to trails. The back roads with other cyclists at relatively high speed is about as safe as it gets.
And everyone that screams about staying on the trails doesn’t understand that the trails are usually well-populated by those that would rather stay on the trail, making it more dangerous for everyone if a group ride (or even a solo rider at speed) were to attempt to confine themselves to a bike trail. It’s far more safe for everyone if cyclists are on the road (and I’m talking the back roads-not the city streets or busy thoroughfares). Of course the ones that scream about staying on the trails are likely the same ones that yell at you when you are on the trail because you are trying to get around them and their dogs on 20’ of leash along with their children who are all over the trail.

Bike trails are often the most dangerous place for serious cyclists to ride, not just for themselves but the other riders. Do you really want a 12+ rider pacelane bearing down on your family at ~30mph? When one of the kids (or adults) wobbles out from the left side of the path, something that happens often when you announce you are coming, then gets blown up by 170-190 lbs of bike and rider with 20mph+ of closing speed then the rest of the paceline starts coming in like missiles there are going to be a lot of ambulances.

When I lived in the city in my 20s, it made sense to bike a mile. Nobody living out here is commuting on a bike.
