One of my best friends moved from Virginia to Boulder forty+ years ago. I helped her move.
We were apartment shopping way back when the prices were similar to Virginia prices. Her first apartment had a view of the mountain front. The big deal that year was what to do about the peacocks that had gotten loose: some people liked them, others wanted to shoot them because of the poop. Before her office moved to Golden, she had already moved twice to more reasonably prices apartments and then to a condo in Aurora. She still had friends in Boulder who had bought before the California influx. She bought in Golden after inheriting from her parents. Now Golden is no longer a small town,
She remains a Republican, doesn't smoke pot, and isn't the outdoors talks about it type.
The job a hail storm can do out there on a car is terrifying. The winter ice begins in October some years. Spring often starts in May. Some of the highway bottlenecks around Denver metro have their own names. The dryness takes a lot of getting used to. The elevation will slow you down if you've any lung problems. The area has evolved and with the easy weed, the evolution is going in unpredictable directions.
Buy in the right area and your property will appreciate.

Almost there. Got one more, and I do believe she will be out soon.

Go back in a month and let me know how much you enjoy being snowed in.
One of life's simple pleasures.

Thanks for letting us know.

You think 4k gets you a "shitty" apartment in Denver?

roads are resurfaced every few year.
Well, they are resurfacing my street-----and have been since March of this year---I kid you not.
I live on a fairly wide street so they tore up one side down past the existing substrate--my side. So that effectively made using my driveway a moot point and street parking on our block not an option since only 1/2 the street was usable.
That went on for 3 months before they finally poured a new curb and put down most of the blacktop on my side of the street.
Wait 2 months and they tear up the other half the street, wait 2 more months and they do the same on the other side of the street.
Here's the kicker. I reported 2 subsurface water leaks BEFORE they came out and blacktopped the street and they weren't repaired, so now there's water seeping up through the fresh blacktop in 2 places that will require them to tear up the street in those areas to make repairs.
It's one step forward and 2 steps back with these idiots running the show.
It is now the first week of November and the street is still not completely finished.

Give me cold weather over the heat all day as long as we aren't taking Fairbanks or Northern Minnesota type of cold.
That's not for me. I don't ever want to have to live in a place where I have to shovel snow.

There are plenty of places you can go with a cooler environment without having to shovel snow or using snow blower.
That LA heat and humidity isn't for me.

I haven't shoveled in a couple of decades. A dude clears my driveway with a truck.
Roads are never unmanageable.

They redo parts of the main streets every year. Its incredible how quickly shite gets done.

While Colorado has the lowest obesity rate in the nation, it's something like 23% to Louisiana's 36%.
Two thirds the fatties of Louisiana still equals a lot of fatties.
Colorado is always the state with the fewest fatties.
But if you sent 2021 Colorado to 1991, it would be the fattest state.

I'm not saying you couldn't. You could probably build a pretty nice place in Port-au-Prince for $400k too. If that's what you like then more power to you, that's what the goal should be. I'm just saying I would probably be happier in a city/town with easy access to the mountains than I would be in Denham Springs, even if it meant paying more.

If you have a shittty outlook here, try to be positive in another state or you will just be shitty there.

Outside of Denver metro area it still mostly is.
But.. that's well over half the state population in the Denver metro area.

Colorado Springs is a little more affordable than Denver. I actually like the town better too.

Closer to the best parts of Colorado IMO.
You also don't have to strain your eyes to see the mountains through the smog.

But the food! That Louisiana cuisine is worth the heat and blight.

Yeah if I have to live near a city I'd prefer a mid sized market. Living in some giant metro has very little appeal to me these days.
