When they bump the cars to put strain on the couplers the cars will jump a couple of feet. The gate on that hopper could easily take out a kid.

You guys must've grown up in the era of safe spaces and the nanny state. 50 years ago every kid in the backwoods grew up doing that kind of stuff, and much worse. You either had enough sense to judge the risks right, or you just got lucky, or you didn't. Those days are coming again, sooner or later.

I'm not even that old and I feel the same way We survived all kinds of stupid shite before helicopter parents and cellphones. I guess my and my friends' parents were a little old school. "Be safe and be home by supper time."

Of course if they are injured it is the trains fault.

Ehh I used to do that as a kid too. No big deal. Sometimes you don't feel like waiting.

In college, I worked part-time for a defense lawyer. His major client was CSX.

They were sued for literally everything stupid under the sun because they had money. Yes, if a kid was killed under a train a lawsuit would be filed. A settlement would likely be made to make it just go away.

That experience made me despise plaintiff attorneys that took these kinds of cases.

I like the people trying to defend the stupidity of kids playing around train tracks. Trains can move violently from a stop due to the slack in the couplers.

An accident around a train is likely to be a serious maiming or death.

Don't let your kids play around live fricking railroad tracks, I don't think that is overly sheltering.
