Right, but the thing is.. he didn't even know who they were looking for.. so he may not have even known I.D. would have helped him in the moment.. that's why says he was just with his PO.
You don't know what is going through his mind. He could be thinking something has been planted against him. He's so confused and that's why he ask to see what it is he has done to justify being arrested..
This is why he wanted to see the warrant.. not just to see if it was a different name. He was completely confused as to what the hell any of this was about..
I don't see how anyone with a clear mind can side with the police here. They could have easily explained the situation to him and then given him a chance to verify himself a number of ways.
I hate police like this.. but it doesn't mean I hate all police.

They never asked for his ID. Cop asked for his name. Guy says "Patrick". The next words from the cop are to tell him to get out of the car and put his hands on the car. Not once did they ask for his ID.
