AI can't do that now, if ever.
It would take a complex, custom program, written to company spec, to analyze its own P&L.
An individual, that has worked @ the company, and knew their standards and practices, could do it 100x faster.
Im assuming we aren't talking about QB.

AI would probably have been able to do the P&L’s and this entire issue would never have been brought up
bingo. If I had a white collar job...id be learning a functional skill that AI cant do yet yesterday. Id also do any task the company needed

Life isn’t fair. One thing I’ve learned is 20% of the people do 80% of the work in a lot of jobs. It’s just life.

We are in quarterly forecasts at my company, and while I used to be in the Finance department, I have switched to Supply Chain and Operations. Our Sr Finance Manager just retired (she was unbelievable, but she burnt out), and they have promoted someone who is far less capable (but very conforming). This newly promoted employee has 10 years in the company, and makes as much as the Sr Manager, despite lacking several qualifications/experienced. I was in charge of forecasts/budgets/FP&A, etc, and can do those without any issue. I am in a completely different department (same level), and the newly promoted Sr Manager has suggested to the CFO that I should be asked to assist with this project. I refused because a) It's no longer my job, and I am in another department, b) a Sr Manager should be able to figure out the project without assistance from another department. CFO is very upset that I refused to assist and says that my expectations for this new Sr Manager is unreasonable. I do not mind helping out once in a while; however, I have much higher expectations for those in a Sr Manager role. I have never asked for assistance from another department at this level. Am I being unreasonable?
You sure showed them! This didn’t go like you planned it in your head.

No problem.
Lots of folks think AI is ready for primetime.

Not in my opinion. They should not increase your work to help someone that is incompetent in theirs.
They will however, as long as you allow it. I've learned that from 40 years of working with dumbasses.
WTS, it is correct that they will find someone that will, and also you may be in line for more promotions if you help. You know the work situation/organization there better than any of us.
Good luck

It honestly isn't even close. It's decent at taking notes for meetings. It's serviceable in other areas, but I wouldn't rely on it for anything.

It's not, but it's not far out. I don't think people realize what's about to hit them. Could you imagine an iPhone 20 years ago? Probably not. When I got my first one, the lack of buttons legit blew my mind. Everyone looked at it like it was a spaceship.
When I started college in 1995, we didn't even have Google lol. We honestly didn't even use the internet regularly. Still called in to Reggie to schedule classes and check our grades...on a landline.
Younger people think modern tech has been around forever, but it advanced at lightning speed once they figured it out. Computer tech has and will continue to fundamentally change the world for humans, for better or worse.

CFO is not my boss. I am a Sr Manager who reports to the COO. I am already in a leadership role. My boss says to do what I think is correct. I’m not going to get fired over this at all.
Did the CFO go to you, or to the COO? If the CFO went directly to you, then that person is overstepping, IMO. Should've been a conversation between the CFO and the COO.

Yes. i found that helping out others in my company kept me well payed and employed. Better start brushing up that resume.

Actually it did. About 25% gave logical, reasonable answers, 25% did not read the post and responded anyway, 25% claimed that I was bitter, and another 24.9% troll, and one talked about DONGS.

Whatever makes you feel better about looking like a douche canoe with the CFO, buddy.

You missed an opportunity to get something you need. Headcount, equipment, time off, bonus increase.
“Yes, I would be glad to help. And by the way; could you help me get that new position I have been asking for approved and filled?”

It’s a giant PITA for you but you may very well have halted any upward mobility within the company.
I think a “yes, but” answer would have suited your interests better.
Agree to help but lay conditions since you have your own responsibilities.

Bad news. If CFO says you are being unreasonable, not only are you perceived as being unreasonable, you triggered their negative zone about you. Never good.
There are far better ways to get the outcome you want than simply refusing. Corporate Art but very real.
Sensing jealousy or envy is in your context statement. Lead with negative intent and get negative consequences. Just is.

I am so glad I don’t work in an ultra corporate environment. This corporate speak makes me want to punch babies.
