Not adding up. I paid 47k for my Tahoe four years ago. Getting a new car on Tuesday. I’ve got offers for 21.5, 19.5, and 20k for trade in. Carmax has my car listed for 30k with identical miles (105k).

We’ve got two ‘21s in our fleet, neither abused or used other than for transportation. Both have had to have completely new engines installed, one at ~30k and the other at ~55k. Both valve related issues, according to the dealership.

Why I’m selling my 2017. New engine and transmission before it hit 100k miles. I’ve got another thirty thousand miles on the warranty but I’m dumping it.

Was going to get a new Z71 Tahoe but frick it at that price.

Good to know.

We just bought a Yukon and we love it. The latest generation are excellent vehicles.

I don’t understand this. How the frick do you get more money for a used vehicle that you bought brand new? What kind of retard will pay more for a used vehicle than it cost new?

Not sure if this was already explained, sorry for the late reply. The 3/4 and 1 ton truck market has more demand than supply. Ordering a truck for invoice and then selling it for msrp or better 8-10 months later when it arrives. Those people are paying more for used because there are no new trucks on the lots to buy. Many of those buyers need the truck for their business so they pay what they need to pay to get it. The last few trucks I’ve bought were appreciating assets.

I couldn't afford to burn $25K every 4 years. Is a new car that much better?

Thanks for adding a common sense comment. Many in this thread have trouble grasping this situation that's been going on for two years and still not really much better these days.

Normally it’s not. This Tahoe that I’ve got has issues. I paid for the Tahoe outright when I bought it and put 500 per month away for the last 4.5 years. With interest I’m at 35k. Top of the line Telluride is 56k. 10 year power train/100k 6 year bumper to bumper.

I don’t want to have to deal with anything and it’ll take me 8-9 years to put on 100k. I’ll put another $500 away each month and have close to 60k for my next car + trade in.

You basically had a $520 per month car note for the last 4 years. But people who don't understand leasing still shite on it and somehow say owning always triumphs leasing. It all comes down to how much your vehicle depreciates in value each month. If you prefer driving a new car every few years, you are almost guaranteed to be better off leasing.

ETA: I'm not picking on you or anything. I'm just using your post as an illustrative example to compare owning and leasing.

Having a hard time taking his OP seriously when he won’t post the model year and mileage from purchase and now.

Probably conveniently forgot about the trade he was flipped in on the Tahoe purchase.

What are your options? Did you buy it to flip it? Drive it. It will have a couple of years before major engine or transmission work begins. Best save up now.

I bought a used 4Runner last year (for $40K ).

I traded in my "luxury" sedan for $1500 less than I paid for it (also purchased used) four years ago.

I paid something like $7 a week to drive the sedan for four years.

Used car market was all kinds of bananas last year, but it cut both ways.

I got lucky myself. Got a new Tundra last summer and they gave me $500 less than I paid for my 2016 F150 on trade in. I had to do it.

They then turned around and sold my F150 in 2 days for $2K more than they gave me. Used truck market last year was stupid.
