Oh. I didn't know glycogen was a toxin. I thought we were talking about the 20 plus pounds of rotted meat that is stored in your colon...things like that.

whatever man..... you do your thing and I'll do mine....
I needed to lose weight and I'm doing it. This system is working and there is science behind it. You may not agree with it and that's fine....

... but if you were me on Monday night you would be a believer... I can tell you that I could tell stuff was leaving me that I was just used to having in my system.
If you don't believe in it.... just don't do it....
I'm just saying it's working for me.

I tried a strict Paleo diet and it never lasted more than a couple weeks before I would binge.

I downloaded My fitness pal, log foods before you eat them, also bought a Garmin Vivoactive. Logging foods and activity keeps me responsible.

I go to crossfit on the days where my work scehdule allows it, on days that it does not I spend 1 hour in the gym.

I lift one muscle group, then run 1 mile, row 1 mile and swim with whatever time is left.

Good luck, I sat around and got fat after a back injury in Afghanistan and it definetly goes on faster than it comes off.

I also cut out all grains and dairy, with the exception of regular oatmeal, none of that brown sugar crap. Also use unsweetened almond milk in place of milk.

It's simple. Eat what you want, just burn more calories than you consume

In 5 months I have lost 60 pounds. I was 220 and am now 160. I am 6' 1" and I am skinny. Next up is a membership to Red's to start building some muscle! Stay focused and you will see the results and want to keep losing weight.

Congrats on the loss. I am 6'1 as well and 41. I can't imagine being 160 lbs. I have been over 200 for about 10 years and it keeps creeping up. Now I'm a little over 240. Weird part is, I don't feel that big. I don't eat many big meals, no deserts or sweets, don't snack and I don't eat late at night. I moved from night shift to days about a year ago and I am eating more now (went from 2 meals a day to 3 most days). I have a desk job, but I'm out on the floor some. But I'm not active enough.

If I started walking/running a crazy amount (like 5-6 miles a day). Would weight start coming off? I can't give up soft drinks, but I can scale back on some other stuff. Is there a good meal replacement shake I can make at home? Is it worth doing? What time of day is best to take them (breakfast or lunch)?

So exercise more important than diet?

It's not that simple. You cannot outrun your fork. Most people can easily ingest more calories in 1 meal than they are physically capable of burning (taking their conditioning into consideration) all day.

Reducing calories to an amount below what you burn in a day will result in weight loss as others have said. So either eat less or exercise more or do both.

First off, not sure if it has been mentioned or not, but there's a thread on the food and drink board (Puttadaforkdown) sticky'd. Come join us...it's a good way to keep yourself in check if you're serious about trying to lose weight.

There's no magic answer anyone can give you to be successful at losing weight. However, tracking your food intake and knowing how much you need to be eating for your size is a huge part of it. I'm almost obsessive about tracking my food with myfitnesspal these days. My friends give me shite when I pull out my phone at dinner and find caloric information about some restaurant meal I'm thinking about eating.

I lost almost 75 pounds on diet alone originally. I lost an additional 40 or so pounds by continuing to restrict my calories and exercising. I lost about 100 pounds in a year and I'm now hovering around 115 pounds and have managed to keep it off for a while. But it's a never ending struggle as a former fatty. You'll deal with it the rest of your life.

Too much serious in this post for the OT but whatevs.

At this point you should just give up and see how fast you can get. Maybe you will get a tv show.

You can still eat bad shite, just pick your battles. I used to eat terrible, but then I joined the Army and cant at all. Instead of trying to turn into a different person's diet overnight, I just use percentages.

Eat a very healthy breakfast (bananas, boiled egg, etc)

I can eat a hamburger at lunch, but no fries or coke. Only water

Salad with grilled chicken at night with one 12 oz can of coke.

I get my shitty meal in at lunch, and save the once a day coke for night so I end up looking forward to the salad.

I still eat fast foods, just no sides and only 12 oz of soda a day. I replaced coke and red bull with Advocare Spark (sugar free energy mix)

Snack healthy. Raw almonds, fruits etc.

Drink loads of water

Once you can maintain a 1/3 shitty diet like I've stated easily then you can transform into a total healthy diet.

People will shite on this, but I lost plenty weight this way and it's a very human approach to diet change.

I disagree. Training has a bigger influence on your body composition than diet. I'm not diminishing the importance of a proper diet but hard training can make up for a lot of diet missteps.

Training might affect your muscle mass but diet for most people accounts for wayyy more of the calorie overrun/underrun than exercise or lack thereof.
