Very true. Bring a portable ice chest and put a pbnj sammich or a bag of fruit. I bring nuts. That's always a good snack, but it's easy to overdo eating them.

It depends on the person. I have ate a low carb diet for several years. To me the main benefit is I find protein and fat to be much more filling than carbs. Most of my carbs come from vegetables and all the fiber is filling as well.

I used to think this too but it will not happen with only a 24 hour fast. Doing a fast once or twice a week is a great way to help with weight loss and overall health. It really helps you learn to control appetite as well.

yea pretty much everything "displaced" has said in this thread is dumb and way off base.

Wow, I am also 39 and am done being fat. I was overweight, but not huge. I had some health issues and it was time to lose wight. I completely changed my lifestyle.

I quit drinking which was huge. I also just changed the way I eat. I started with low carbs and low sugar. I then moved on to really watching my fat intake along with this. Finally, I was able to realize that I can still enjoy many of the foods I used to eat, just eat less! I cut my portions to about half what they used to be.

Want a burger? Fine. Have a quarter pound single instead of that double bacon cheeseburger. Fries? I rarely eat them anymore. Pizza? Eat a slice or two instead of that whole large pizza.

In 5 months I have lost 60 pounds. I was 220 and am now 160. I am 6' 1" and I am skinny. Next up is a membership to Red's to start building some muscle! Stay focused and you will see the results and want to keep losing weight.

I just started the Arbonne 28 day guide to better living.
(it's basically a detox/cleanse thing but they don't like to call it that).
It's about flushing all the toxins out of the body and learning to eat better. The basics are as follows:
replace 1 meal a day with a protein shake (2 if weight loss is a major goal)
keep caloric intake at or around 1200 calories (men may need as much as 1400) but they must be clean calories.
you drink an herbal tea in the morning before breakfast that aids in the detox.
you eat a small portion snack between meals (bean chips and vinegar free salsa, almonds, apple, almond butter, etc)
and you eat a good meal at dinner (clean eating, they have a menu that's actually not that bad.)
don't eat after 7 pm and don't eat breakfast shake before 7 am.
evidently the body needs a 12 hour window to detox.

I'm amazed at how much better I feel after just 4 days. I'm not gonna lie... Monday sucked.. I was physically sick by that night. Figured out I wasn't getting enough calories. Tuesday was a little better, yesterday a little better, and today I can really feel a difference in the little things I had just "gotten used to" with how I feel.
I'm down 8 lbs in 4 days with a target weight loss short term of 36 lbs and ultimately 50 lbs long term.
After the detox you can eat normally 20% of the time and clean 80%. I'm not a big fan of "healthy" foods but I'm starting to become a believer because of how fast I've started to feel better.
If you are serious about losing weight and getting into a better lifestyle then you might want to look into this.

I laughed too but it's working....
I'm a country boy..... fried everything, love to BBQ, you know how it is.....
but these clean foods really do make you feel better...
Cokes, and beer are probably my two biggest weaknesses and 4 days without them is making a difference... I can't wait to see how I feel in 2 weeks or a month......

I will drink them again... in moderation ... after the challenge... as will I eat my old favorites... but I'm finding out the sacrifice isn't near as bad as I thought.

I love how mad people get when someone has a differing view than they do when it comes to diet and exercise.

setting aside your sarcasm and hyperbole:

never said this, but...

maybe i'm not as informed on fasting as a dieting technique, but it really doesn't seem healthy to me

if what ive posted is wrong, please feel free to disprove it. This shouldn't be a "your wrong, youre dumb, haha, im so great" type of topic....

it should be one where the correct information is posted.

Of course you are going to feel better when you eat right. But the idea that you are "flushing toxins" isn't even bro-science. It's dumb-chic science.
